Went to look at an 88 that was on Craigslist a couple of weeks ago. The car had rectangular shaped steel tubing affixed to the space frame on both sides between the front and rear tires. The seller told me they were to protect the coolant tubes. I have never heard of this before. Anyone know anything about this mod?

You should have taken some pics

I thought they were stock in the slot where the jack goes in the side with a smaller set up towards the front. Mine were rusted off and I got replacements thru the Fiero Store.
