Hey all. I pulled my Held/HT tubular suspension off the '88. I sandblasted and sent everything out for powdercoat. I am reassembling the front suspension and noticed, there arent any bump stops. '88s have bolt on bumps stops which makes life way easier to lower the front vs the 84-87. However, I don't remeber removing the bump stops and I dont actually see any provisions to mount them in the lower a-arms.

TLDR Questions:

What did you do about bump stops in the Held/HT 1988 front suspension?

FSM shows a TQ spec for UCA to paddle bolts but no spec for UCA to shaft. I went with 32. What did you use?

Things I noticed. At first glance the A-arms seem symmetrical. The uppers are. The lowers could have been had they drilled a hole on each corner of the plate for the swaybar end link. It would have been so simple. I wonder why they didn't?

I have the Held upper and lower tubular control arms and used a pair of Energy Suspension 9.9150G Control Arm Bump Stops. I drilled a hole and put them on the lower control arm plate behind the swaybar mount points. I mounted them against the tubular cross brace and the rear tube. They match up to the factory upper bump stop plate. I just did a track event and didn't have any tire rubbing problems, when the mounts touch the upper plates there is about 3/4" between the tire and fender well. I have 225/50-16 front tires, 24.9" diameter, my car is an 88 MERA so the fender clearance may be different.

I do not have an 88 but on my QA1 coilovers I got the rubber bumpstops that they sell that you assemble in to the coilover itself. Simple.

I gave that idea some consideration but thought it would be better to have the bump stop closer to the wheel end of the lower control arm.
