Yesterday I bought a 1988 Fiero GT with a Cadillac 4.5L V8 and 4spd auto overdrive
It is white with gray cloth interior and does have the stock wing..

I had a 2 hour drive to bring it home, and some of the first issues are already surfacing.

About halfway between Tulsa ond Oklahoma City on the I-44 Turnpike there is a stop that includes a MacDonalds and a convenience store.

Leaving the rest stop I punched it out a bit all the way to third, but it started acting like it was running out of gas. I am thinking the sock on the pickup tube in the tank is dirty.

After I pulled in my driveway in OKC, it dumped the antifreeze. Since it was night time, I don't know yet what that is going to be …
Oh well, If I did not expect some difficulties to overcome, I should not have bought a 30 year old sports car... I am getting this up and running very soon if possible!!!

Don't get discouraged, we all have things come up on our cars. Its part of the enjoyment of the car, is overcoming problems as they arise. Check your fuel filter before dropping the tank to check the pickup filter. Dunno about the antifreeze, i just put a Champion rad in mine and changed the antifreeze as well. Runs cooler now.

During one of our Run For The Hills events, one of the 4.9's suddenly dumped it's coolant. OleJoeDad and his son Brian knew exactly what it was and fixed it in very short order. Seemed to be a common event and has to be addressed periodically. You might PM olejoedad and see what they did. It could be the same cause.

Wondering if this was the '88t Northstar ...that was for sale in NEW MEXICO ? if so, looks like a great ride...despite the initial glitches. Don't feel bad, when I bought my '87 GT..on the way home, the slave cylinder for clutch FAILED. once I replaced it, smooth driving again.......so don't be put off my the occasional problem in our 30 + yr old cars..

Thank you ALL for the replies.!
I resolved the anti-freeze dumping issue by simply replacing the cap to the overflow with the correct one.
I still intend to change out any fuel filter(s), but for now I have resolved that issue as well. Every car I buy I always run some Chevron with Techron through the tank
, they always run better afterward. This time it seems to have resolved that issue!
BTW, I took my new GT to the Casino last night.... the valet guys were all over it!

The Cadillac V-8 in mine is an HT4500 (although they never officially designated them that).
A bottle of Chevron and the right overflow cap just saved me a lot more money than switching to Gieco!!!
