So I'm contemplating putting a newer ECM into the fiero. I assumed the 6000 across the field was a 7730 as Google told me, but apparently it has an updated ECM numbered 16198262. It's apparently just an even quicker ecm and uses all the same pins, but has anyone actually put one into a fiero? I've seen a few people ask but no one stated they used one.

I assume it should work. But that's the next question, where could I buy a preburned EEPROM for my ecm? I'd like to stick with distributor for now to keep things simple, if that actually is the simpler way to go. I'd want to add a knock sensor, and I'd prefer to keep the old vacuum egr but if it's necessary I'll upgrade to the digital one.

Thanks all

Or, if I find the right tunerpro codemask I need for my car, can I buy an EEPROM burner and burn one myself? That might be cheaper and quicker to order.

To get started in reprogramming GM eeproms, you need the software the programmer and a UV eraser. Several GM ECM's with additional features can be used on the 2.8/3.1/3.4L . When I was swapping those engines, I recall one P/N that on;y required 4 or 5 wires to be re-pinned on the ECM connector. Dont recall which on it was but it may have been the 730. The popular 2732 memory chip was discontinued years ago but new parts can still be found. If you are looking for the plastic plug in carrier; those are next to impossible to find.

I looked into it a bit more, but I'm sfl unsure if I can keep the distributor and the stock egr. It seems all the codemasks are one or the other, being DIS with stock egr, or a digital egr with distributor. I think it would be easier and probably cheaper to keep the distributor and get a digital egr and bracket if I have to.

Is that my best option is to just go with the digital egr? Less modifying the better. I just want the upgraded ecm basically.
