At the library..found the book.. "Indy Pace Cars" by the auto editors of consumers guide. Great book, fabulous photos and a great write up and photos of the Fiero 1984 Pace car on pages 174-177. The book mentioned that the modified 4 cyl. engine was also used in the 1985 Oldsmobile Calais pace car. Don't pass this book up....ENJOY !!!

3.4L Supercharged 87 GT and Super Duty 4 Indy #163

The Fiero Indy pace car, used a specially built "super duty" four cylinder engine that put out 270 horsepower. That engine had little in common with the Iron Duke 4 used in the production model. A number of Fiero owners transplanted the Super Duty engine into the production Indy. The president of our club owns one such Fiero. .

I've tried to get more info on the 85 pace car, even posted up a question on an Olds forum but not much info out there.

Come to Fieros at Carlisle on June 22nd. Besides being a fun event , last year there was an Indy with a SD4 engine in it. Great place to find good info on Fieros, dozens of great Fieros too.
