My local junk yard has a 1988 2m4 with a 5 speed. I have a 1988 GT. What parts are the same? Is the 4 cyl. Cradle the same as the GT? Is the 5 speed trans the same ? How about the nose doors etc? I am considering buying the whole car for the cradle and trans set up.

The cradle will have the same 88 suspension setup (minus a rear sway bar). The 5 speed will be an Isuzu transmission instead of your Getrag and the bumpers are different front and rear. I would definitely grab all four calipers because they are rare and becoming out of stock at parts stores. You may want to grab the steering rack and front end parts (control arms, wheel bearings, etc or the whole front subframe) The doors should be the same and you may want the full headlight motor setup with harness and module to keep or sell. The 85mph gauge cluster is wrong but the the HVAC control head is the same. If you like having A/C pull the evaporator core out of the blower assy (you can't get them new locally and they cost $315 from Fiero Fiberglass)

If you can get the whole car for a good price I'd do it!

Brake calipers, front and especially rear suspension/cradle........Even if YOU never use it, someone will pay to get them.....

I am not completely sure about the trany......I sort of thought that the 88 4cyls used the Getrag....But I usually get myself in trouble when I start thinking......Does anyone else smell smoke...?

If you can get it for a reasonable price, do so. I did the same thing when I acquired my '88 Formula. It's great having a lot of getting harder to find spare parts.

I heard from earlier in this post that the 2m4 even though it is an 88 would not have the rear sway bar. Same suspension and cradle but no sway bar.

Adam,
That is correct. 2m4 will not have a rear sway bar.
If you can purchase the car complete for a reasonable price then you should. The salvage yards usually shy away from selling them complete. I know you wanted a stick shift and the complete car would provide most of the parts needed to get you there.
If not you probably should go after as many of the before parts mentioned as you can.
you will need a t55 torx to remove the calipers.
