I'm thinking of buying this:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/84-8...128307254?rmvSB=true

Here's their website: http://obsoleteair.com/

The FSM shows a different part number for the '84 model year; current suppliers show the same part for all years.

Has anyone had experience with the evaporators?

I haven't bought anything from them but all I can say is that being here in California, you are definately paying a California price......$500 ???????

Thats without shipping to Canada yet. If you simply need a replacement, contact Danyel on here since he is already up North and probably has some spare parts. If you want a new replacement, I guess they would be the best since they specialize in hard-to-find parts.

Local radiator shops that can do custom work can often build evaporators. They based them on set sizes and aluminum weld the fittings on. Call around to the shops in your area.

I'm inclined to think that the age of the thin aluminum is the primary cause of failure, since aluminum will work harden and crack.
It may be better to install an evaporator that is rated for the R134 pressure as well...

Obsolete air will supply one at $299.99 with free shipping to Niagara Falls NY where I have a 24/7 parcel service. It's 40 minutes away.
That's the best price I found, and it's similar to prices for other old cars.

I thought I'd get more responses, since A/C particularly in the southern US is needed way more than up here in Canada.
I haven't found any local shops that custom make or adapt evaporators. My A/C mechanic friends don't have any sources either.
