If it runs and it's a V6, offer him 6k. The tires are still inflated, so it probably hasn't been just sitting there all these years. 6K and drive it home. I would.

I have only heard of one or maybe two bright red 87s, that happened right at model year changeover.
I would be surprised if this isn't an 86. If it's really an 87, it's most uncommon.
