Fall is here... and with it comes our yearly tradition... The Ruckus! This is our fifteenth gathering of this unique Fiero show, making it one of the longest running annual Fiero events in the country! And the time frame for R15 and the location begged for a show name: HALLOWMENA
On October 28-30, Ruckus 15 will be held near Broken Bow Lake Oklahoma at one of the most picturesque locations our show has ever visited! This region of Oklahoma is an absolute gem. On the scouting trips, I could not believe that such beauty and roads were within A 4 hour drive of DFW!
We will be running the famous Talimena Highway, which is a road built atop the spine of the Ouachita Moutains, unique in that it is only one of two ranges that course East/ West in the US. According to locals, the end of October will be near the peak of the fall color change and the mountain forests will "look like a bowl of Trix cereal." On Saturday, We plan on making a valley run from the lodge to Mena Arkansas for lunch and then will run the mountain crest road to Talihina Oklahoma before heading back to the lodge area for supper. There will be several photo ops and spots to get those calendar beauty shots, and while this is a driver centric Ruckus, we have made sure to pack in other activities.
Accommodations are at a special 'Fiero Group' discounted rate at the beautiful Lakeview Lodge at Beavers Bend. The rooms are large, have fridges and microwaves, cedar furniture, and comfy beds... but it is the view that will make your heart skip a beat. It is breathtaking... and every room comes with one. Please request rooms with 2 queen beds (they had limited king beds and could not negotiate a discount on those). I am working on some activities for Friday like a Zipline course and a Duck Cruise... and will post details as I get them.
We are glad to hold Ruckus in Oklahoma again, and on this big anniversary number 15 will work hard to make it extra special. We will be doing a costume contest with prizes and encourage everyone to participate. Simple, complex, cheesy, clever, bought, or made... just dress up. (Poe and Trey... you guys are not allowed to dress up as mechanics.)
We are looking forward to seeing everyone again! Please pass the word along to all your car pals, Ruckus is fun no matter what you drive!
Happy Hallowmena!

I am SOOOOooo Jealous right now! I grew up in Mena Arkansas! My father built a log cabin there in Mena, right at the foot of the Ozarks. I lived there from age 8 to 13. It is a very small town, the population is less than 5,000. Main street is is small, but so cool! You drive down it right through the middle of Mena, and all of a sudden, the road starts to go up! You end up climbing and climbing, and soon you are on top of the Ozark mountains. Within about 30 minutes of leaving main street, you are at the top of Rich Mountain, and the park there at the top of the mountain. There is an old full sized steam engine locomotive and coal car there. I remember playing on that as a kid. Please post lots of pictures, and happy HalloMena! ! ! ! ! !

Damn I'd like to come to this. Retirement is both good and bad, while I have the time, I no longer possess the resources.
It is, what it is. Enjoy, take pics and please post them.

Isn't it strange that after a bombing, everyone blames the bomber, his upbringing, his environment, his culture, his mental state but … after a shooting, the problem is the gun?

The lodge only has 7 discounted rooms in our block! Don't delay... once released, the public will snatch them up as this is a peak season for them due to the color change!
Alright! The job I had scheduled in San Diego next week got cancelled, so I am officially heading to Oklahoma next weekend! I just made my hotel reservation at the Lakeview Lodge and will get the old GT ready for the trip.
Blake, Tom please check your PM's. Looking forward to seeing everyone in OK next week.
I replied PM and included my cell.
Mike Valentine!! I'm can't believe you can come... this is awesome. What Are your travel plans from CO? Wondered if you wanted to come here and then caravan with us on Friday morning... or meet at our lunch stop... or just meet at the lodge near Broken Bow.

I plan on driving straight to the lodge...where is the lunch stop? Maybe I'll change my plans.
Some additional HallowMena notes and some NTFC Friday caravan information:
1). We are doing SWAG BAGS! Please bring 20-30 small, cheap, useful, silly, edible, clever, dumb, made, bought, stolen, origanl, or copied items to toss in the SWAG bag. Everyone that participates with a contribution willl get a swag bag themselves. Don't break the bank for this... it is mean to be fun!
2). HallowMena is a dress-up in costume Saturday! (optional)... lots of us are dressing up to varying degrees and there will be prizes! Enjoy your haunted season car show!... the last time we did this was the Lufkin Ruckus! R7 I believe it was...
3). Several of us are doing a zipline activity on Friday. The appointment time is at 3:30pm. Here are the details on that: (Please call them directly) The name of the outfitter is Rugaru Adventures. The are expecting reservations from the Pontiac Club, and they can be reached at 580-494-2947
It is 6 lines, last line is 1100' and goes over the lake. It is $75 ($80 with tax)
They say close toe'd shoes and long shorts or pants are preferable to short shorts. Weights are 75-250lbs. No heart conditions or pregnancies. Under 17 must be accompanied by a parent.
I may be just be hanging out and having a cigar... so join me if you don't want to zip...
4). After checkout from the Lodge on Sunday... several us are going to do a Ride the Ducks amphibian bus/boat tour. It is about an hour long and is $20. The fall color change seen from the lake promises to be very pretty. I hope y'all will consider joining in!
5). Feel free to bring a cooler for Friday cruise lunch. Also, beer is the week stuff in OK, but I have heard smuggling in the real stuff is illegal... so... the more you know... -----------------
Here is some NTFC caravan information:
We have two meet points. For the Southern group... we are meeting at Burger King/7-11 off Great Southwest Pkwy and 20 in Grand Prairie with an 0830 departure (don't be late!) and the probably head to Terrell and take 34 north to.... the QT off 30/380 in Greenville for a 1000 depart. This will be where the north DFW guys will meet us. I have checked with Poe and he said 380 from McKinney to Greenville is smooth sailing.
Our destination is Fort Towson for a pleasant lunch outing. Leave there about 1330 and the hit the Lodge by around 1430. The main goal is to be at the zipline place by 1530.
Attention Ruckus attendees who order a shirt. I have bad news, the vendor who was going to do our shirts had overpriced them and it wouldn't be right to ask everyone to pay that amount, I wouldn't pay that much so shirts will not be available at the time of the event. But the good news is they should be available in about a week. For those who said they wanted one but doesn't want commit due to the lateness I will not hold to your order. If you want to cancel your order tell me ASAP!!!
I can wait. it is hard to find a vendor that is reliable and lives up to the expectations we desire at a price that is affordable and does what we ask in the time frame we need. A perfect storm of excuses made us miss a shirt deadline and Ant, Tom, and I will make sure everyone that wants one will get one, despite our costs. This is great custom artwork, and we hope it delivers and reflects all the time and effort to bring out the only Halloween themed Fiero shirt we have ever seen.
