have a 4.9 swaped fiero with a auto,wondering if i could do a ls 4 swap but keep the auto?

You could swap to an LS4 yes. You'd need to use the auto trans that comes with the LS4 though, as it has the provision for the starter mount needed for the LS4. It's also a stronger and better trans than the earlier 4t60 that came with the 4.9.
