I have no way of getting the VIN# for the donor car my engine came out of, as it was crushed. I do have the last 8 digits, and am tryong to compile the entire thing.

I need a VIN# from a 2004 GTP to work from. There are some things in the beginning of the VIN I am unsure of, such as Plant they were manufactured in, code for the restraint system, and a few other things.

I do not need the last 8 digits of your VIN#, so you can keep that private. I just need the first 9 that tell the country, plant, restraint system, body style and "carline/series".

thanks for the help in advance.

Thanks! Pm sent.

Also, I am not worried who has the VIN number, as the car has long since been crushed.

Here are the last 8 numbers of the VIN:

Thanks! I think I was able to cobble together the VIN for the car my engine came out of : 2G2WR524X41193172 It passes a VIN decipher. I am going to wait till bonaduce runs the last 8 through a GM database, and see if that VIN he comes up with matches.

The numbers above are incorrect, as I took them off the wrong place on the engine.

The correct last 9 for my VIN are: 241193172

Thanks for the info, but what it the VIN # ? The last nine digits I have for my VIN are: 241193172

There was a check sum error on the 9th digit of a reverse look up I did on the VIN above, so I changed that digit from a 4 to an X. I am not sure if it is 100% correct or not. That is why I was happy to hear you could get the full VIN from the last 8 digits. I am wanting to get the VIN so I can do a CarFax on it, to get approximate mileage and other info.
Thanks Again!

I thought with the car crushed long since, in another state, getting the VIN would never be possible. With the tip from Olejoedad on where to find the last 8, and you looking it up made it all possible. Thank you, Thank you THANK YOU!

EDIT TO ADD:

This is definitely the VIN for this engine. It shows the car was purchased in 2004 in Florida, and then moved to TN for a few years. It then spent the last of it's life in Alabama, where the report shows that it was salvaged at Montgomery Pick-n-Pull in 2012. This where Joe said he bought the engine 3 years ago, so it all adds up.

My engine has 90,000 miles on it, and I am happy with that relatively low number.
