I have it on good authority that the engine bay of a Fiero was designed from the beginning for a transverse aluminum V8. The source of the info is unimpeachable and told me at the 20th show.....where he was an invited guest. So, what aluminum transverse V8 did GM have during the design phase of the Fiero, and what did it evolve into later on?
The LT5 was what went in the Corvette Indy concept in '86, I think. They may have been planning to put a smaller V8 from the Lotus side in it, as GM was doing several things with Lotus at the time, including developing the LT5 and the Corvette ZR1. They'd just developed an engine for Indy as well, with Lotus.
Ya, the Pontiac Fiero factory would never be putting a Caddy motor in it. It would be a Pontiac 307/350 or a nondiscript Chevy.
Pontiac stopped making V8 engines after '81. If it was factory, it would be a Chevy 305 or 350. The Caddy 4.1 V8 was out at the time. The 4.5L came out in '88.

Ding ding ding. They were looking at the Caddy aluminum V8.....which finally grew into the 4.9 .....
A lot of generic air intake flex duct looks like dryer vent. It has more reinforcement to keep it from collapsing under vacuum, but looks similar. It used to be used a lot on heat risers from the exhaust manifold up to the air cleaner snorkel. You can buy them in various sizes at most auto parts stores. I used a 3" diameter one for my "cold air" intake on my Formula when I removed the water diverter box.
