Looking to buy another Fiero soon with intent on getting more power. Does having a 4 speed vs a 5 speed make a difference for any swaps? Specifically interested in SBC carbed or maybe a 3800SC.
Thanks,
Greg

Is it at all funny I was just looking through some old threads,,,, saw you,,, and wondered what happened to that mother effer?... like just 5 min ago... You better get another one... I got a whole new gang of toys you have to compete with at the next Carlisle welcome back

As for your question. My last swapped 4 speed was the 3400 SFI turbo and the transmission was about the only thing that did not go wrong with that car...It accelerated Faster than a bat on crack but its top end sucked.

Thanks! Great to be back. Did you have a Duke or a V6 in it to begin with? I should imagine that the 4 and 5 speed shouldn't make a difference.

Typically I've heard a stock 4speed is a bit more durable for higher power builds and swaps

It was a formula so it was a V6... is also started out as an auto the PO just changed everything about it.

Just the opposite... The 5spd getrag is stronger than the 4spd Muncie, but the Muncie is stronger than the 5spd Izuzu found in the 4cyl cars. The weakest case is the 4spd 4:10 gear Muncie out of the 84 se.

The 5spd getrag is also a good starting point for the f23 5spd transmission swap, as you can reuse the cables, only modified.
