From what I understand it's just the '88 that used an additional expansion tank, or maybe the '87s and '88s? I'm sure someone here could correct me on that. I think a tank from an '84 to '86 should work but I'd welcome and feedback or insight on that!

You can use whatever you like. You will just benefit an extra gallon of fuel space if you get an 87+

A few additional lines going to an expansion tank that's mounted in the passenger rear fenderwell area I believe? Not to difficult from what I understand if you're handy with a drill, etc but I've never done it myself.
