That trans was very very common and you should be able to find it at any local junkyard for way under $250. IIRC it was used on the 88-92 Buick Century, Olds Cutlass, Chevy Celebrity and Pontiac 6000 that had the 4 speed option.

I just finished installing the second 4T60 in my daughter's '89 Cutlass Supreme International in a little over a year. I got both replacement units at my local pull-a-part for $100 each. There are usually 4 or 5 in the yard at any given time, once you know what to look for. Both of the units I bought happened to be out of Luminas, one was a '91 and the other was a '92.
4t60 hd is not a electric transmission. They came from a 90 grand prix turbo mainly. Mine came from a 87 buick lesaber hurse as in dead people mover. Has less than 10k miles on it and a/c delco reman tag on the top. And because it came from a funeral company you know the car never got above 40mph at most.

I disagree. They aren't so easy to find as they once were. I just see lots of 4T60e's and 4T65e's now.
well i cant find rust on any frame rail on any cars in the j-yard......... Im not saying i like it here because i HATE smog but there are some great picks at the j-yards.

That figures. Yea, nothing like the smog crap in cali here.
Anyway, Sorry for the diversion. Carry on.

I'm not so sure putting a 4T60 next to a Duke is a good idea...I'll take even more power from the duke to move the heavier transmission, plus once it goes in overdrive, any incline would require a downshift.

I'm looking for maximum MPG's.
a friend of mine is having me do the same swap to one of his Indy's but doesn't ave a sare transmission for me. the transmission came out of a Chevy Celebrity and he had no problems getting up hills.
anyway, I just want one. the 3 speed stinks for the Duke. because on the freeway its over 3000rpms. OUCH!!! that just scares me. I'm looking for around 2000 rpms on the freeway. and the 4T60 will give me that. I drove a 3.4L swap Formula with the 4T60 and at 65-70 mph it was right around 2000 rpms.
PERFECT. if it means that once in a while I have to put it in to 3rd gear for hilly bits. so be it

If it makes you feel any better my 79' Le Mans is sitting right around 4100rpm @ 60mph. Mind you its a small block chev, but theoretically your duke is half...
