5.3L is the iron block, alum head truck version of an LS1. The right RPO code is LM7. The 5.3 has the same stroke and smaller bore than the LS1.

Wow, that is some awesome metal work you've done there...
Is the cradle designed to set the engine lower in the compartment or something? I was noticing the steep pitch of the forward mounting points on the cradle.

Bump!

I am surprised this hasn't had much more interest. LS(X) swap kit, 5.3L engine and with custom tubular cradle (84-87).

It looks like a basic mini starter for the SBC kits, but looks like the mounting block was modified to be bolted directly to the adapter plate. The angled notch in the oil pan provides clearance for the started to me mounted along side the axle on the rear side of the engine (vs. the front side that is normally used). There is a picture of the starter shown above.

Here is a better pic of where the starter mounts:

It's a Hitachi stater can get these for 70-80 dollars if you find the right place. It just has the pad modified for rotation & for plate mounting.

So this is designed for the 84-87? Could the cradle be modified for a 88 or would it be too much work? What trans was this designed for? With the redesigned cradle, does the motor sit lower, or more "left/right" than if someone was using the stock cradle? What's the history on the motor? Milage? Was it pulled from a wreck?

Thanks

Rob
