Last month, I wrote about the Lost Cajun Kitchen, a small, mom-and-pop restaurant located in Pennsylvania. The restaurant made news, because it offered a discount on Sundays to anyone bringing in a church bulletin, and a particular atheist decided to sue them over it. Little did the restaurant owners know just how good that action would be for business!
As I noted in my July 6 posting, "John Wolff, who is an atheist, filed the complaint with the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission against Prudhomme's Lost Cajun Kitchen in Columbia." Here's more from the York Daily Record:
Wolff said the practice discriminates against him because he does not attend church.
"I did this not out of spite, but out of a feeling against the prevailing self-righteousness that stems from religion, particularly in Lancaster County," said Wolff, a retired electrical engineer.
Sharon Prudhomme, one of the co-owners of the restaurant, said she is not discriminating because diners don't have to actually attend a church or synagogue service to get a bulletin. She said area religious leaders told her that anyone can walk in a religious building and obtain a bulletin, without attending services.
Prudhomme added that she has no intention of changing the discount program, which she created to bring more traffic into her restaurant on a traditionally slow day.
So what happened next? Just like with Chick-fil-A, the attention has resulted in big business for the restaurant. As reported in The Christian Post, "Owner Sharon Prudhomme explained that business has been up and support has poured in from all over the country and even the world."
"It has definitely picked up," said Prudhomme to the York Daily Record, adding that "everybody that comes in [offers] a lot of handshakes, hugs. Everybody is offering a lot of support."
Here's what John Wolff had to say in his own words:
So... the man says he has no animosity toward the owners of the restaurant, yet contacts an organization in order to take legal action against it? Come on! No one is being discriminated against and no one is showing intolerance in this situation except for Wolff.
The local newspaper hit the nail on the head with their op-ed about Wolff by writing, "It seems, like so many atheist complaints are designed more to draw attention to oneself than to right a serious constitutional wrong."
So church folks can come on a Sunday and get a 10 percent discount on their mess of crawfish if they hand over a church bulletin. Big deal.
Restaurants offer all sorts of discounts based on debatable criteria - to senior citizens, to youth sports teams, to people who buy the newspaper and clip out the coupons.
Wolff and the Freedom from Religion Foundation should find something better to do with their time. It seems the more attention they draw to blasting organizations that have Christian principles, the more it helps the organizations. Hmmm... maybe they should keep it up! Chick-fil-A and the Lost Cajun Kitchen seem to be doing just fine.

I am so glad to see this sort of intolerance FINALLY being exposed for exactly what it is. This country was founded on the idea of freedom of thought and respectig OTHER people's right to a differeing opinon is key to having your OWN right to opinions protected.

This is getting ridiculous. 40% Of the topics on the first page of TO/T are made up of your political copy & paste posts. Since I'm pretty sure every single one of those threads carry the same message ("Obama sucks"), I'm going to consider this as a violation of the following posting rule if you don't tone it down:

Do not start threads about other threads. So you get in a heated discussion in one of the threads. You get the feeling you are not getting your point across. So you feel the need to start a new thread explaining what you meant in the first thread. Don't. Since there's already a thread on the subject, say it there.
So either tone it down, or create a single thread (you can call it "Avengador's Politics Corner" for all I care).

Wait, let me get this straight. Telling someone to tone it down because of the 40 threads on the first page of TO/T, 16 are from the same person posting the same 'ol copy & paste stories of which a lot of people have asked him to please, tone it down a bit is just me having a bad day in your eyes?

16/40
That was the tipping point. And the message of each and every one of those threads is the same so it could easily be posted in a single thread. Just like Fierobear's The evidence against anthropogenic global warming thread. I don't see him create a single thread everytime he finds another article supporting his "cause".

The man has spoken, and the tipping point is 16/40. Now you know. (JOKE)
As for the thread:
The Atheist is not on the side of the winners. Why? Its a privately owned business. He is not violating any laws, and isn't excluding ANYONE including atheists from the "sale"
It says bring a church program in. Print one from the internet, steal beg or borrow a neighbor's and your golden.

I agree there is a tipping point at which it gets a little ridiculous Cliff but not each political article is the same just because Obama is at the center of the conversation any more than a thread about rebuildig a Fiero Distributor and another about rebuilding an alternator are the same jsut because they are both Fiero parts.
The thread about Obama's position on Welfare Reform and his Healthcare Tax are dramatically different issues. True, the common theme is Obama sucks...but the topics are very different.
Perhaps a private word with Avengador about "volume" would be sufficient. Remember, this is election season here and political opinions are more highly charged than ususal.

I agree 1000% with this. The funny thing is in this thread he calls the atheist an attention whore. Isn't that the pot calling the kettle black. These threads are completely asinine in the first place but having to see every other thread be one of these IS a bit much. Avengedor you really need to go outside and stop wasting your life doing this all day EVERY day. Thanks Cliff.

Never forget this is cliff's house. Ultimately he decides what is appropriate and what is not.

As an Atheist. I am on the side of free enterprise. Anyone can get one of these flyers. I don't like that it is more inconvenient for me, but such is life. I personally don't care how they run their business. If they want to charge black people more and orientals the least, that is fine with me too. I wouldn't likely run my business that way, but who am I to tell others what to do with their company. Great way to drum up business though.
Regarding John, Avengador1, I've been sick of his BS threads for a long while and have voiced my thoughts. Hells to the yeah for Cliff though!
Kudos to Todd for making his thread!

Telling Cliff how to run this place again?
You know and I know and everyone here knows that you're just pissed that perhaps there'll be a limit now to all the "Obama sucks" threads that have been polluting this forum for far too long.

Myself, if i don't feel like reading a news re-post i don't click the link.. If i do feel like one, then i click it. The power is in my hands to choose what i want to read.

We have areas up in town that are ethnic based ( of various varieties ). If you aren't one of the 'locals' you simply are not welcome to do business there. As long as there are choices for everyone and no one tries to 'take out' others choices, I don't have a problem with it, as its their store, their right ( as far as i'm concerned, i realize legality is different ).

I can't... Avengador puts some Cross-Site Scripting into all of his post's subjects, so every time I go to PFF's O/T thread, all of his posts open up into new windows.

It's not Obama's fault this time, it's Neptunes fault for bumping all my threads from a few days back, and even months back, to fill the first page of O/T. Check the original post dates and times for my threads and check what date and time they were bumped up today. I bet he even ran to Cliff to complain, as I called him out for trolling me. This thread isn't even about Obama it's about the tail wagging the dog, much like what Neptune has seemed to have done with his hit and run bump today.

At some point the big shovel has to come out and deal with the horse droppings, as it gets tiresome as hell having to step around this sh!t all the time.

If you don't read the thread there is no crap to step in. You must enjoy having dirty shoes since you can't seem to avoid them. Bypassing the word filter is also breaking the forum rules.

yes, avengador1 posts a ton of political threads. Too many in many people's minds. That said, the people who don't want to read them tend to ignore them and they go off the front page. Neptune didn't like avengador1's posts, so he bumped a bunch of them all at once to fill the first page and then sent a complaint to Cliff. (my speculation, I have no proof).
It worked. avengador1's political content is now restricted to one thread where it's easier to ignore. He has his own "Free Speech Zone" thread.
I have no complaint against Cliff. We all post here at his pleasure. But people should be aware the catalyst for Cliff's actions was not solely avengador1's doing.
I have faith. But take no part in religion. If the people of the world, hell, if the people of the United States alone would put as much effort into furthering the species as they did screaming about chicken sandwhiches...
Sigh.

That isn't exactly true, as all the moaners and complainers have gone there to insult, moan, complain, and even gloat, without actually adding anything to any discussion going on in there. For people who seem to really hate what I post they just can't seem to get enough of it, and that makes them a bunch of hypocrits, but that is what I have come to expect from liberals.

Really? In an open discussion forum where folks are free to post about such inanities as finding transexual **** with bullet holes on the beach while walking their dog with public defenders (just one recent example), you call A1's posts asinine?
My definition of attention whore must differ from yours considerably. But, to each his own, live and let live.
As has been said, we post at Cliff's pleasure, and thank him for the privilege.

Funny I'm not a liberal and I'm tired of your bs littering the O/T section. It's one thing to post something every now and again, but you post the most ridiculously false information each and every time you find a "story" that you can slant in your favor to make derogatory remarks about others, whether it be liberals, Muslims, atheists, etc. Enough already. If you don't have anything better to do, then do it all in one thread where we can completely ignore you altogether if we choose, the moderator and owner of the site has made a decision about it, either fall in line or go somewhere else and post about how this site censored you. Just make sure you go somewhere else to do it. This goes for anyone else that wants to argue with Cliff about his decision as well.
