Many have Email says ONstar is selling data....

OnStar Begins Spying On Customers’ GPS Location For Profit?
OnStar Tracks Your Car Even When You Cancel Service
Senator Wants Investigation of OnStar’s ‘Brazen’ Privacy Invasion
OnStar Alters Course, Won’t Track Canceled Subscribers

Disable connection on which end? OnStar or car's phone?
If ONstars end then its easy to just get a new connection....
Car end should stops car from getting a signal from cell towers... Stop most all from tracking car.

Kinda hard for them to track you or sell info when you've knocked that little antenna off with a claw hammer.

Could be... Was only a matter of time. GM/ONstar needs cash, selling ONstar's data is an easy way to generate cash... Many police agencies, insurance, state/fed gov, etc, was wanting to mine ONstar's data. (Search TO/T and archive.) Even "anonymized" data, police can use data to see where they can setup speed traps etc...

If data sold include VIN then "anonymize" data is a joke. Anyone can use VIN to get driving records, etc.

I don't want it but Just for giggles, not sure if Fiero can use it... I ask ONstar FMV will work but their web chat and web lookup doesn't cover Fiero. Chat is no help answering install Q...

[Chat operator] Im sorry sir I do not know about the installation of the FMV mirror. I can check and see if you vehicle is compatible if you tell me the make, model, and year of the vehicle.

But support page says:

Compatibility

OnStar FMV is certified to work on more than 90 million vehicles sold since 2000. As OnStar FMV is a safety product, we are in an ongoing process to validate individual vehicles. Check the compatibility of your vehicle here. If your vehicle does not appear, please consult your local retailer.

Vehicles made before 1981 are not compatible with OnStar FMV.

So who knows. I don't see how it could do the auto crash notification if we don't have the airbag sensors?

Doesn't use airbag module. Has sensor (accelerometer) build in. (See video at ONstar)

Ask Best Buy... ONstar says Installer can test if or not system works.

Yes, loosing antenna just shorten range of radio. To stop it, need to short and shield radio output terminal. Use extra cable end and put 72ohm resister between two wires. Shield all.

Is there something that says that Onstar has the right to sell your information? All place I have seen, they have to ask for your permission first before they can share your info with a 3rd party, or is it automatic when you buy your new GM vehicle??

edit >> well from the links, it would seem so, so I guess the only way out is NOT to buy a GM.

Too true. There is a youtube video of a CTS-V running a 1/4 mi. ONstar keeps coming on stating there was an accident while the car was accelerating.

ToS just change rules anytime GM wants. Like any ToS... Change w/o notice or some minimal notice and opt out means cancel service. Like most Credit Cards...

Xyster, that's fuunny!
