A good friend of our family, Tom, has a plane in a hanger that he shared with my father at Oakland County Airport. My brother and I were removing the last of my father’s items before turning the hanger over to Tom. I had the chance to finally see this aircraft and decided to shoot pictures for my pilot friends here on the forum.
A little picture tease first before I unveil the craft in total….
Ok, enough of this tease,,,,,,,,,,,,, scroll down…..
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
So Tom asks me if I wanted to go for a ride someday to which I point at the this on the wing....
Click to show
and this on the hour meter…..
Click to show
and the fuse labeling….
Click to show
While Tom gave me satisfactory answers to those questions, I then pointed to this....
Click to show
and asked how many were left over from this plane’s rebuild? (It's Tom's little ecclectric collection)
Anyways, I thought all the pilots here would get a kick out of this. No I didn’t hear the engine fire yet, yes I will go for a ride someday.
Here's the passenger seat....
Couple more pictures...
Here’s a link to my photo-page for a lot more pictures, enjoy.
I'm confused, it says fabric covered wings but those are metal.....metal fabric? I'm not a pilot but my Best Friend is and what I do know is that Experimental is just a class for home built planes and well experimental planes. They have kit planes both propeller based and jet powered. When you register it you label it experimental and then you don't have to go through all the FAA bologna.

Some of the wing surface sections are fabric including most of the control surfaces. I couldn't believe that myself but back in the day, even B-29 bombers had fabric covered control surfaces. Yeah, I knew I should've got good shots of that for you guys.

Not being fixed winged qualified, I don't have a qualified opinion but, I do like what I see. Would love to have something like that next to my personal Bell Jet Ranger.
Doesn't hurt to dream does it?

Ron, really, ya should go get your fixed wing....rotary scared the crap out of me and was too expensive anyway, but in the fixed world, things like that ag-cat are--WOW...there are also Hummelbirds (130 on a VW motor chainsawed in 1/2) and things like a Canso (Catalina PBY) to be had.....man, I once did a 4-g turn in an Vans RV-4.....lay it on its side, pull back the stick...1/2-way thru kick the rudder and great--great--things happen .....or take a DV-20 and kick left rudder about 3-5 knots before the stall...Ya get the most BEUTIFULL view of the world as ya go inverted (well, then all hell breaks loose in the spin, but thats manageable )
Really....go get your fixed wing.....its worth it.

While I appreciate the suggestion, financially speaking, that is not really an option now. Maybe in the future but not now. If I were to go after a fix winged ticket, it would really be because I can't afford to go back to R/W. We all have our loves, for me, if it can't hover, it ain't worth flying, if's just transportation.

I've fallen in love with the little sea planes which have been flying and landing in the Hudson River lately... I see 'em during my commute... looks like it would be awesome to fly one of THOSE...
Hope your friends plane is a sucessful experiment!
Yeah Rumor, if that plane had pontoons, the take off run would be all of 125 feet then straight up.
My first experience flying was in a sea-plane, really cool stuff for a kid, was telling everyone for months. Never been in an open cockpit before, never sat behind a 9-cylinder radial engine either, I'll be sure to visit church first before I do though.
