I am trying a detox diet because my current diet has been crap. a lot of processed foods, fast food, ect. When I say detox, I mean simply I going on a meat and veggie diet. very healthy. it seems I may be detoxing though, I have been VERY weak, tired, headaches, etc. Anyone ever go through this?

I'm back to eating one meal a day and drinking plenty of water. I have no headaches and I don't get hungry and I don't feel tired. So far I have lost 17 pounds in about six weeks. As our bodies gets older our calory intake needs aren't as high.

If you're eating animal protein, you aren't really detoxing. What you're experiencing is probably some kind of withdrawal, maybe caffeine or sugar. If you really want to detox, or "cleanse", you should follow a program of some sort. What you want to accomplish would determine what kind of program you want to follow. Your level of commitment would determine the length of the program. I've done a half dozen different cleanses that range in duration from a couple of weeks to several months. I've even done one that's specifically for cleansing the liver and gall bladder, to release gall stones. What you're doing is no doubt healthier than what you were doing "before", but that's not really the same as a detox, or cleanse. If you want, I can give you some information on a couple of programs I've done that will show you a whole new level of "clean".

BTW, to the person who is eating one meal a day, that's got to be the worst plan ever. You may be losing weight, but that don't make it healthy. You would probably lose more weight quicker eating 5 times a day, you just have to eat the right things.

what I am doing specifically is a Candida diet. I was diagnosed with a Candida infection in my gut, and Im trying to starve it out. I am following the regiments provided in two books by MD's. No yeasts, carbs, white flours, sugars of any kind, etc. Its hard but I have been sticking to it. 'Im always hungry though and very weak. No doubt my body may be with-drawling from lack of high fat/sugar diet. I'm already under weight at 150 and was at my peak wealth at 170.

Sounds like the sugar caffeine thing. Also, I don't know how much red meat you are getting. Could be anemia, which is something from which veggiebrains often suffer--Not enough Iron. You should really consult a physician, not just read the books on your own.

I thought about trying that detox diet where you drink some lemonade mixture for like 7 days and that's pretty much it aside from water... But, I like food to much...

I am seeing a physician, just haven't been back yet.

to be honest KHW, I think those types of diets are EXTREMELY unhealthy and put a lot of stress on you adrenals and body. Every nutritionists, naturalpathic doctor, and reglur MD I have spoken to about these have said they are horrible and not to do them.

It usually consists of a sandwitch and a non-diet soda, sort of like Subway's Jarred, but tonight I splurged and went to the local Longhorn for a steak dinner. My wife is always trying to get me to eat three meals a day. When I do, I start to pack the pounds on real quick.
I feel more energetic on one meal a day, any more than that and I get lethargic. My calorie needs may not be same as others and I know what makes me feel good. If I increase my activity level I also increase my calorie intake. Since I am not very active I tend to keep my calorie intake very low. It makes no sense to overfill the body's fuel tank when the body is only going to turn this extra fuel into fat. My doctor gave me a clean bill of health, on my last check up, by the way.

I've done something similar, but it wasn't a diet. I've done an "herbal cleanse" a few times. It involves psyllium, water and certain herbs to clean out the digestive system. I felt a lot better afterward, but it is a pain to drink all that damn psyllium and water.

I've done a few, ove rthe past two decades. Had mixed results. I think some are very good to do, make you feel better, gives you an opportunity to break/replace some bad eating habits.

Go to Captain D's (or Long John's) and get the fish and more meal with extra hush puppies. Eat the whole thing, rush home and BAM! You'll be cleaned out in an hour or so.

I was told by someone that Black Walnuts and Garlic Tablets might help. Both are a natural way to kill germs and on a side note,Cran Berry juice is good for the bladder,(another disinfectant).Does your Candida infection have anything to do with Crohn's disease (a form of inflammatory bowel disease)?
