The former policy of "One Family, One Child" has in many ways backfired in China, so much so that they have all but abandoned the concept.
In their attempt to impose population controls, they have inadvertently caused a woman's "sellers market" in that there are on average 3-4 eligible males to females. Some Provincial Chinese aborted female children in favor of males who were seen as being more capable of sustaining the family unit with the result that women there can afford to be extremely choosy about who they marry. This has driven a large number of eligible women from the provinces into the cities where the men are, by and large, more affluent or they choose to immigrate to countries where their chances of mating with something other than a farmer are better.....former Eastern Block countries, Western Europe, the US and the like.
The same thing will likely happen in India over time.
