John Lennon was a closet Republican, who felt a little embarrassed by his former radicalism, at the time of his death - according to the tragic Beatles star's last personal assistant.
Fred Seaman worked alongside the music legend from 1979 to Lennon's death at the end of 1980 and he reveals the star was a Ronald Reagan fan who enjoyed arguing with left-wing radicals who reminded him of his former self.
In new documentary Beatles Stories, Seaman tells filmmaker Seth Swirsky Lennon wasn't the peace-loving militant fans thought he was while he was his assistant.
He says, "John, basically, made it very clear that if he were an American he would vote for Reagan because he was really sour on (Democrat) Jimmy Carter.
"He'd met Reagan back, I think, in the 70s at some sporting event... Reagan was the guy who had ordered the National Guard, I believe, to go after the young (peace) demonstrators in Berkeley, so I think that John maybe forgot about that... He did express support for Reagan, which shocked me.
"I also saw John embark in some really brutal arguments with my uncle, who's an old-time communist... He enjoyed really provoking my uncle... Maybe he was being provocative... but it was pretty obvious to me he had moved away from his earlier radicalism.
"He was a very different person back in 1979 and 80 than he'd been when he wrote Imagine. By 1979 he looked back on that guy and was embarrassed by that guy's naivete."
Maybe he started to see his money being redistributed and it pissed him off.
Yeah, isn't it funny how generous liberals are with other people's money? How they like to say "tax the other guy! take HIS money!". I'm sure Lennon was quite wealthy. He must have woken up.
On a related note, see how these dumbass college students think redistribution of their grade point average is somehow different than the redistribution of other people's money.

That went over as well as the Affirmative Action petition.

Not saying it's true or not (because only a Lennon himself could say), but it's easy to report what a deceased person thought. There is seldom a way to prove anything. Please keep in mind I am neither a Republican nor a Democrat, just don't see why it would matter. I understand that entertainers are influential, but as a free thinker, the opinions of J.L. will not effect my decisions.
Lennon died in 1980. Reagan became president in 1981. Let's be careful about how much we extrapolate Lennon's views of Reagan. It appears to me some are thinking Lennon liked Reagan during his presidential years. Um, that's not possible.

Reagan was Gov. of Mexifornia from 1967-1975 and ran for the GOP nomination for President in 1976. He was easily in the political spotlight long enough for Lennon to form a solid opinion of what he thought Reagan would be like as president.

Neener!
A lot of Republicans were ecstatic that Reagan got elected president until he was actually president. Many things Reagan did were good and well needed, but as things progressed the thrill started to wane especially when Stockman told Reagan his tax plans were crazy and would affect generations unless he actually got the cuts he was counting on. That didn't happen. The honeymoon was over about then.
Yes, Lennon might have based his admiration on Gov. Reagan but don't extended it to President Reagan.

What does this have to do with John Lennon? I was there. I remember the Reagan presidency, as well as Carter's.

That was basically what I said. I didn't "extended it to President Reagan" [sic].
Here's a refresher:

Reagan never had a majority in the House of Representatives, where the budget votes are made. He had a majority in the senate for about 3/4 of his time in the White House.
One of the reasons Lennon move to the US ,was because of the leftist goverment in Britain he had gotten disalutioned with the left destroying England,,the media would not report on his turn to the right,,Lennon was an idiot who probably enjoyed yoko ono,s strapon activity,,He wised up & there were reports of his right turn ..I still can not beleave that moron Chapman got Lennon & missed yoloko ono,s melon by mear inches ,,in the past I feared the marxist Obamanation being re elected & nailing more nails in America,s coffin,so,, just in case the poor marksman was released,I no longer have to write the moron in his luxury nut house telling him Obama visits Lennons grave, stealing his publicity & on the side is banging Yoko like a loose screen door in a Hurricane , looks like Obamas Marxist ways can not be hidden & he will be retired surpassing JIMMY hitax CARTER as the absolute worst President in the history of our country
