The USA is quite prudish when it comes to the body compared to a number of other countries/cultures. I didn't see the video, but am assuming its foreign, in which case, I'm not surprised at all.

What he said...American standards are laughingly puritanical in the broadcast arena. Even in commercials. Simple things amaze me, like it being considered "taboo" to show an armpit in a deodorant spot or someone actually drinking the beer in a beer commercial.

Anyone remember Janet and Justins little wardrobe malfunction?
One "accidental" nip slip...and in quotes because I still have no idea if it was accidental or not and the entire country goes nuts.
"OMG! Kids were watching this!"
Really? Were those the same kids that used to suck on the same things for nourishment?
I don't really like sex and the city, but I find it refreshing to watch when the gf does because its frank and open. Like it or not, at least it is relatively real. These are conversations women would have.
And I have no problem with something like that being on after 9..
There are countries where full nudity is of no great concern. And then there are countries that will stone a girl to death for showing her uncovered face.
I am happy to live in a country somewhere inbetween.
Dude are you serious? They are almost all fully clothed... there are music videos that aren't allowed to be played on TV without censoring... that's not one of them.
This is The Flaming Lips - Watching The Planets. DO NOT WATCH THIS AT WORK. NSFW NSFW at all! It's just a whole video of nudity.
Did you know that in the original full length video for the song Happiness in Slavery, a man is depicted stripping down to bare flesh, strapping himself into a machine... and then being raped, tortured, and killed by the machine to be used as fertilizer?
That video is nearly 20 years old now. The Broken movie was never officially released but you can find a DVD image pulled from the master copy (which somehow ended up in the hands of one seed0 on The Pirate Bay
Food for thought.

The music video for "Happiness in Slavery" features performance artist Bob Flanagan entering a large room. He places a flower and a candle on an altar and in a ritualistic style prepares for something; by washing himself before becoming strapped into a machine with long robotic claws that arise from the machine and subsequently tear apart his skin and stab him in a crucifix style. (Through the hands and feet). The man reacts in pleasure as this occurs. There are also drills that appears to drill into his skin in various places letting the man's blood drip on the floor, where there is an unspecified garden that is fertilized by human blood.
Later in the video, large grinders emerge from the machine to cause extreme injury to the man's skin. As he continues to scream in a mixture of pleasure and pain, the machine promptly starts to disembowel him, ultimately finishing him off. It then engulfs the man's body in a metal cask and minces it into fertilizer on to the garden below. In the conclusion, Trent Reznor, who had been singing the lyrics inside a cell, now enters the room revealing to the viewer that he is next.
The video was almost universally banned once released. It was later included in Closure and the Broken Movie. It was featured on Too Much 4 Much, MuchMusic's showcase of videos banned from their regular programming.
Reznor commented that the video was not created for shock value, but that "these were the most appropriate visuals for the song."It had to do with his artistic freedom at the time after his fallout with TVT Records.
The video is on Youtube with gore & full-frontal male nudity.

I remember the first time I saw the Duran Duran video unedited. It was in Japan and they seemed like they were running in heavy rotation. Every music-related show on TV ran it. I knew I'd never see it in the States like that.

You guys need to watch some Australian shows. We are probably mild compared to some South American countries and Japan but we do get full frontal nudity in prime time. It is only the human body. Nothing offensive there that I can see.

This is America, Aus.
The human form: We can kill it, no problem....but we ain't supposed to look at it.
I gotta say.. that was incredibly disturbing. I get the metaphor... but dang.
The first time I saw that video (the Broken movie), I nearly threw up... the full film is about 20 some-odd minutes long and it is made to seem like a snuff film edited together with the music and videos from the Broken EP. Extremely graphic content.

Well... not bare skin, anyway. Some kind of puritanical laws about "indecent behaviour" that've been leftover from the olden days.

And all becouse of what we might be thinking. Forced clothing was the very first instance of thought police.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm glad I am forced to dress. I was conditioned to be ashamed of my penis at a very early age. And the women I have known have fullfilled their conditioning by reenforcing that shame. It's a perfect system!

I'm perfectly fine with my penis. Who conditioned you to be ashamed of yours? I have a small pecker, I do. I don't mind... I'm still a man You shouldn't be ashamed.
Now we can get into some fist fight over who's smaller, but I bet I'll win

But once, just once, I would like to have to tuck it into my sock. Or to walk into a party with it slung over my shoulder.
It's much more widely accepted in latin and hispanic culture to have more graphic exposure for women. It's really just kind of a cultural thing. My daughter watches Plaza Sesamo, and even the girls on there often dress like they do in those music videos. Women are much more "objectified" in middle and upper class hispanic cultures. Women are somewhat of a trophy, if you will. That's not to say that women don't have high powered jobs, why... just take a look at Argentina. But in any event, it's much more widely acceptable. Anyone who's seen uncensored BBC, and knows that boobs are not regalarly blocked, would still see a difference between that and someone who watches Telemundo, or channels like we have down here "WAMI."
There's a different perspective, it's just cultural.
Personally, I prefer watching the spanish channels.
