That is about the best comparison method I have seen so far, does a great job of showing how extensive the damage is.

But, bear in mind, that Japan s a very large island, and only a small portion of it was directly affected by the tsunami. Most of Japan, by a very large order, is unaffected other than the rolling blackouts to conserve power consumption. It's certainly bad, but it's not like the entire island is demolished. Not even close.

I would like to see a whole island map showing the areas destroyed. As was mentioned, these pictures are not representative of Japan as a whole.
