Does anybody know what year GM started running the ECM thru the radio ?

I know my 95 has TheftLock, but I dunno about the ECM end of it.

There are some REAL good deals on head units right now, and I'd like to pop one in (2011 is a little late in the game to have a cassette player in the car ) but I really dont wanna mess around with the headache of the ECM funtions.

Depends on the car, but as early as 2002 in GM cars. In my little brother's 96 Civic, if you replace the radio, you lose keyless entry, unless you keep the radio plugged in back behind the dash.

There are wiring harnesses to get around all of that. I plan on installing a 7 inch screen in my 2011 camaro and many have done it with no issues even with the CANBUS system.

We rented a 2001 Blazer at one point. It seemed to have the same radio (double DIN, 6 disk changer w/RDS) as our 2004 Trailblazer, which is definitely interconnected.
I'm going to guess that anything "double DIN" is PCM/BCM connected. 1.5 DINs as late as 2001 are not.

Ours is a 2000 Bonneville and I seem to remember reading on the Bonneville forum that it was interconnected. I'll have to double check, but I think your timeline sounds right.
