Not too surprising that a mother animal would feel attachment to their child. I find it interesting that she took it to another chimp, who examined it..

Yes, its sad to see animals try to cope with the loss of a friend or mate, or their human.

I remember reading a story in my eng 102 class about a baby chimp that mourned itself to deathwhen it saw it's dead mother.
