I need to chat with someone a lil that has lots of knowledge with optics, like an engineer. BTW: It's not Fiero related.

Define "a lot"...

I've built telescopes?

Designed light guides?

You can ask a company for a "sample" lens to see if it fits your application. Sometimes a lazer pointer and a white sheet of paper will tell you what you want to know.

I'm in the R&D department for a company that builds 3D stereo vision headsets. Also the primary installer/Maintenance for our microscopes and camera's. Not an engineer but i've pushed my way through quite a bit of lenses and applications of said lenses.
