Recently, my son and his significant other came over and were talking about a movie that they had seen that they thought I would like. Well, they are not available for me to ask so I thought I'd try here.

The movie is about some super heroes Comic Book type theme that are trying to save the world but one of them discovers that another member of the group was murdered. I remember they said something about Minutemen but, they also said something about "Watchers" or Watchmen or something like that. The truth is, I wanted to get it for them for Christmas.

Anyone got this movie or can guide me on the name or where to get it?

I didn't care for the movie, but if I remember correctly, Fierorumor loved it. He could probably comment on it.

It is an alternate reality, 1985, Nixon is President for his THIRD term... The doomsday clock is moving closer and closer to midnight, signifying world annihilation...

"Super" heroes are nothing more than vigilantes, noone has super powers.. Except one person, created by a freak accident in a nuclear research facility...

He is vaporized but his consciousness remains... And he is slowly able to piece himself together over time.. Eventually, he gains full control over matter on all levels...

But he loses touch with his humanity... This is where the blue penis comes in... He no longer associates himself as being human... Clothing is a human need. A taboo that he has no ties to..

The movie is long, based on a graphic novel that showed that comic books were much more than cheap pulp style fiction... They could actually tell an in-depth story...

Another character is Rorschach. Grew up rough, borderline psychotic.... Stops at nothing to stop perceived wrongs... Including brutally murdering a murderer.. His "real" face is his mask, and that is his personality... He identifies so deeply with his "hero" side, that it is his "real" persona... In one scene, his mask is taken, and he screams "GIVE ME BACK MY FACE!"...
Phenomenal actor in the role..

I enjoyed it very much, it was a good movie in my opinion..

If you focus on the blue penis, then so be it.. But if you see the character as he is, and his losing touch with the people around him who care for him, and losing his humanity.... Then it takes a back seat to the character and the movie.

It wasn't a bad movie and it's worth the entertainment. So I would recommend it.

The one dude I like was Rorschach. That dude was a bad a$$ to the tenth degree.

Ummmm, they already saw it, so unless they told you it was outstanding and they loved it, I would try a different gift.

I saw it, and don't remember caring for it, but then I am not a comic book movie type of person.

One of my favorite lines....

Beneath me, this awful city, it screams like an abbattoir full of retarded children, and the night reeks of fornication and bad conscious'.
The alley was cold, deserted. My things were where I left them. Waiting for me. My coat, my shoes, my spotless gloves... My face...

Putting them on, I abandoned my disguise, became myself. Free from fear, or weakness, or lust...

Hello how bad is it that a drugged up actress (Completely forgot her name now) gets booted off a movie playing a drugged up actress.
Found it, Lindsay Lohan http://www.people.com/peopl...44040,00.html?hpt=T2
better looking than Lohan, though the movie is a better fit for Lohan. Ironicaly might have turned around her life.

On a bb, didn't read the replies- buy the full version- there are several out there - you need to get the version that has the black freighter subplot story included in the MOVIE.

For a bit more, you can buy a CD set which comes with the owl ship (75-100 bucks)
I recommend reading the graphic novel first!

The movie was ok, but the book was far better, imo.

Then again, if I read it now for the first time, I might not have enjoyed it as much as I did when I first read it. Hard to say.

On its own, the movie was alright, I think they did the best they could have, given the material. They really did do a lot to bring that book to life...The two women who played sally and her daughter were the weakest actors.

And that's all I hafta say about tha-t (for now)

So the book is better? Hmm, the plot thickens.

Heh, pictures loaded. Yeah, she wasn't the best actor on the set (it WAS partly due to the character she was playing, though)

But the scene of her coming down the stairs was good stuff.
Know what it was? Some scenes seemed silly because they normally would be one panel, one snapshot. Other times, though, they did a fantastic job of fleshin out the scene ( like when Rorscach apologizes to Owlman in that once scene)

Sooooooooo now you should read the book before seeing the movie I guess. Then does it ruin the movie being you already know what's going to happen etc? So maybe you should see the movie first? But then how do you read a however many page book, when you already know whats going to happen?

Now you all have me wondering if I should re-watch this movie. I kinda think I want to just to check out the girl LOL.

Watchmen http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0409459/

So many versions: Theatrical version, Special Edition, Director's Cut, Complete Cut, plus something called Ultimate Cut +Digital Copy.
(+regular DVD and Blu-Ray versions - avoid "Full Screen" versions - get Widescreen)

The less you know about the story and character before your read/watch it, the better.

Just get the book, DON'T flip to the end.

Then watch the movie.

Thought the book had a more ending, but I enjoyed both.

Neither left me feeling exactly "happy", though.

The few still frames in the opening credits make more sense after you read the book...

Really?? Linda Lovelace didn't look THAT good on her best days!

I assume the film's gonna be rated PG-17 at the very least. How would one go about making a bio-pic about Lovelace anyway WITHOUT demonstrating her one true (how does one put this delicately...) "talent?"
