verry nice story, nothing like bonding with your motorcycle. i too have rode my motorcycle from jacksonville, fl. to carteret, n.j. around 950 miles miles. the year befor i rode from new jersey to niagra falls. i too still own my motorcycle with almost 59,000 miles on it, it's a little 800 kaw. vulcan classic/ no windshield. i learned to be one with flying bugs and water. ah nothing like driving a bike in the rain.memories on a motorcycle are ireplaceable. in my garage is a 14 year old bike and a 24 year old car and thay look dam good. you own a verry nice bmw too.

Marvin,
A very nice read. Didn't realize you were a biker (free spirit), gives me more reason to make an extra effort to stop and visit.

Thank you all for the compliments. I'm glad you enjoyed the story. It's all true.

I want to clarify a couple of points. I no longer ride; I still keep my license, but I sold my last bike (a BMW R100RS) almost 25 years ago. I sold the 1967 R69S in the story back in 1969, but I found it again ... fully restored to better-than-new condition ... in 2010. How I rediscovered my old R69S and how we determined that it was indeed the same bike is another story for another time. The last I heard, it had been sold (to only its 4th owner in 43 years!) and was on its way to Australia ... and no doubt on to new adventures.

blakeinspace: Say "hi" to James for me. I hope he enjoys the story too.
