well, you got some shoes to fill then he was able to actually explain, and not just spout catch phrases
You should know me enough on here (by now) to know that I'm not into "catch phrases".
I do not listen to Rush, nor do I watch Fox News.
My sources of information are usually MarketWatch, CSPAN, etc...
I really am "Conservative", before I consider myself Republican. I've voted for all Republican presidents in the past 3 elections, but I have voted for 1 Democrat congressman, and 1 Democrat Senator (twice in a row, Bill Nelson).
I also consider myself an environmentalist, but don't believe in global warming.
I often think that sometimes people mistake my responses for Toddster's.
He probably got tired of trying to explain what should be pretty basic simple concepts to a group of people with "gimme syndrome" who think socialism is a good idea.
I know I did.

Or maybe he got called out for lying and calling other members childish names once too often, and decided to go elsewhere. I certainly don't miss him, but I hope nothing terrible has happened to him either. Anyway there are plenty of the party faithful here on Pennocks Conservative Forum who can more than fill the void.

or those who misrepresent socialism? FireFighters are a socialist system. or communist? either way - the model is NOT capitalist. I agree full out socialism is foolish - just as full out communist or full out capitalist. and, of course - how about NASA? certainly not a capitalist entity. Not saying capilitalism is bad - just saying it is NOT the savior. worshipping the dollar is NOT the answer.

The main job of government at all levels is to protect individual rights and safety. I have no problem if my tax dollars support legitimate functions of government.
Socialism can be defined as confiscation of money or resources from their legitimate owners for arbitrary distribution to persons or entities who have not earned them. Fire Departments do not fit that description. Equating them with welfare recipients is intellectually dishonest.

yes, wasnt sure if it was socialist or communist - sounds like communist. well, misrepresenting socialism is dishonest as well. because many just re-read it to "welfare" - and yes - that is a ignorant aspect of socialism. because either way - with capitalism - you dont get firefighters as we know them. you would mosty likely subscribe to a service, maybe insurance style. and, you could be left out. same for Police protection. anyways - there are threads for this. I am NOT anti-capitalist - I just want people to know what they are actually talking about.

To the contrary, most fire brigades in the U.S. in the 18th and 19th century were either volunteer coop operations (a socialist model) or privately owned and run (a capitalist model). This lead to many interesting problems. Some private fire brigades would not respond to your fire unless you were already a paying "member." Others would respond to your fire but would then bargain price with you before they would do anything. In a few big cities there were multiple fire brigades that would race to your fire "competing" for your business.

Understood. But this is the 21st century.
Semantics aside..I think governments should run instruments of public safety, like fire and police departments.

Hey man, I don't want to be mean, but if you start saving quotes from board members, I think it shows that it might be time to take a break from the message board. You can't let message boards comsume your life...

not sure what the century has to do with this we are discussing stuff which is older than this nation but, at least you see the need for different social models for different applications none fully work on their own

He has some family issues he's dealing with. He's fine, just busy.
Thanks Bear! Kind of figured he was working 24-7 to get ready for the massive inflation and tax increases that are coming due to the runaway spending that the Dems are doing. Sure he doesn't want to join the other middle class citizens who will be swept into the poor column as a result of it.

Thanks for the emails and well wishes. I must confess to being deeply touched that my absence was even noticed. I've always thought of PFF as a second home and it would seem I have family here. My thanks to you all. Yeah, even you Neptune.
Yes, I am dealing with a rather major crisis in my life right now. It seems to become even bigger and more bizzare with each new day. At this point I am not even sure I feel anything but numbness. If an atomic bomb went off in the SF Bay right now I'd probably look up and say, "is that the worst you can do?"
Anyway, I am trying to peak my head in once in a while but I will be indisposed for some time to come as my life is changing direction very fast lately. I will be traveling a lot lately so if I end up in your neck of the woods I will try to let you know. Coffee is good.

Hey... I haven't been around a whole lot, lately. Haven't really paid attention to anyone's comings and goings. I hope whatever it is can be resolved without a great deal of trauma.
Best.

Damn, wrong message.... I don't know how I got here...
I don't wish Toddster any ill will. But honestly, I breathed a sigh of relief when he stopped posting in the forum. The O/T section is a much nicer place, now.

Todd, even thought I've had an issue with you in the past, if you find yourself in the Denver area, you'll be welcome here. I hope every thing works out for you.

Blacktree, not sure which Toddster you are referring to but whatever.
Moto, thanks. much appreciated. i have nothing against people of different opinion, just people with closed minds or agendas. I hold nothing back with them since they are insincere and you never struck me as insincere.
I forgot about this thread. I haven't really gone awya, I just don't have much time these days for online chat with all I have been through in the last year. But things are looking up. I will start a thread about it one day when I am ready. trust me, you will laugh, you will cry, and you will say WTF! but you won't be bored!
