I had a couple of days off last week (18 &19th), so Kevin decided to a due a little multi-tasking.... so I tagged along to help, but I had a few business transactions to take care on the 18th, so I was in a rush to get back up north to pick-up Kevin in San Francisco.
Prior to picking up Kevin--- I had to take care of some serious business, so I needed to nut-up on some honey roasted walnuts at Casa De Fruta.
So that's where I live.... under that thick fog. No wonder it's 58-64 degrees (gotta love the Bay Area). I was traveling up 280 north to pick up Kevin.
On Wednesday, we needed stop by UHaul. Here's Kevin making sure Monroe has the bike "ready to roll" @ 09:00HR.... of course they didn't. I took several pics and then crashed on their leather chair. I drove nearly 500 miles on Tuesday.
San Francisco; Valencia and Mission street. A very hip and cool place to hang out.

On the way back to San Francisco via 80 on the Benica bridge. I needed to get back to UHaul before 19:00HRs. A $6 dollar toll fee using a trailer.
Our tax dollars at work.
I called UHaul @ 18:53 and I barely got inside the gate as they were closing. One of the workers tried to wave me off, but got right behind the other dude who got there @ 19:03.
The nice lady called Yellow Cab service, but they arrived at 19:48HRs. For those who don't know the area... UHaul is located on Bayshore Ave. You don't want to be hanging around at night. I called Atlas as a back-up; to which they arrived first.
D1S's largest suit case known to man! Good thing I drove the work car.
Okay, the entire 2-days was great, but the cabby had to go a spoil the fun (let me explain). I parked the work car at Serramonte Mall which was 10-miles away on 280. The cabby punked me by driving the longest route to the mall. I questioned him, but he said this it the shortest (I guessing he thought I was a out of towner with the suit case and all). Anyway, I told him you're over charging me by driving all around town--- ringing up the charges. He could've gone straight on Bayshore to 101 and then 280. If I was a thug... I would've rob him, hehe.
Here's my bill for a alternative route... boy I was pissed! I told the guy I only have $40 bucks. He took that and no tip.

If I could find the "drool" button on the keyboard I would fill the post with it. Ducati's are so nice, well as long as you don't mind the maintence and the whole breaking thing, but they sure do look sexy as hell. And I know I'm weird but I really want a 999, yes the ugly one!
Thanks for sharing, Wilson

Tried and beaten, I thought I could rest-up on Thursday, but I was called back to work (emergency) and found this little guy slowly crawling across the walk way. It's a Banana slug- common here along the coast and seen during mating season. I saw several in the same spot last year or so.
On Saturday (on the way to work) it was time for my semi-annual pull me over. Three officers were needed (things got a bit ugly), so the sgt. was called. The end result--- $200 plus ticket (I guess?) if I want to fix the so-called violation.
Due mostly because of me- about an hour later, I was allowed to leave, hehe. Apparently, I can't have any type of modified exhaust and it was too loud. Sgt (the level headed and cool officer) was called in because of my complaints. I guess having a Greedy exhaust with C.A.R.B. stamped on the pipe doesn't meet CA 95 dB nor the emissions.
I paid big bucks for my Evolution series exhaust back in 1999 and I had to wait for 2-months for it. However, my main concern was the legality of the system. Only the exhaust is modified.
Keeping You Legal GReddy maintains a full line of CARB exempt 50-state legal performance products in addition to the race only products designed and intended for off-highway use. Our street exhaust systems have been designed and tested to give you the maximum amount of performance and meet the SAE sound test of no more than 95dBA. Weather you are just looking for a little better performance from your street machine, or are going for all-out race performance, the only name you need to know is GReddy.
****(owner runs and hides under a rock)*****
The fart can in question.
I guess according to the officer (any) after market exhaust is illegal in CA. The law used in this case (271501) A. I guess it's the original law, but the J1169 law clears the way for motorist who want a modified system, but within the legal limits.
Governor Gray Davis signed into lawSEMA-sponsored legislation to compel law enforcement to tie exhaust system noise citations to a 95-decibel limit under SAE test procedure J1169.The bill was initiated to address the problem of motorists who drive vehicles legally equipped with modified exhaust systems from being erroneously cited for exceeding noise limits and to remove all conflicting provisions in the law and regulations. The bill still allows officers to cite based on a subjective determination that the exhaust system exceeds the 95-decibel limit. This provision remains a bone of contention and SEMA continues to work with the California Highway Patrol and others to investigate possible solutions.
Minor adjustments. We didn't leave San Francisco until 13:00HRs. Kevin woke me up and we left.
Note to self: always bills inside in your wallet and not in your pocket. Kevin some how lost $80 bucks as he was reaching back' n forth inside his pockets. In a desperate attempt he called the shop, but nobody said they saw money on the floor.

Yeah, it was a some what of a good outcome and nobody was tasered, hehe. The sgt (a nice guy) had nodded his head in agreement that my exhaust was quiet, but the other officer had already written the ticket. I need to make a date for the nearest smog ref in town (the inspection is free). If it passes (I don't know why not... since it's CARB approved?) I'll head over to the court house and then spend (hopefully) 1-hour or so.
Oh yeah, since it was issued by the local PD, I can't have a officer to sign it off. If it was a CHP- I could go to one up the street and have it signed off. I've never been pulled over for loud exhaust since it's installation by a CHP (the CHP are very particular). Worst case --- pull the fart can off. I have the original OEM on the wall--- just in case.

I talked to Kevin a couple of days ago. He was in CO somewhere and the Ducati (he says) is bad to the bone! Kevin got the bike up 123-mph and shut it down. During the night, he drives the bike inside the motel room and over it using the white linen to clean the bike, hehe. In order to get the bike inside he had to remove the side bags.
Note to self: this is what a man must do before he reaches 60.
On Wednesday and Thursday Kevin treated me to dinner. We eat on the coast grilled fish and on Thursday steak and shrimp at Red Lobster.... we'll my steak wasn't prepared right. Somehow Red Lobster (in Fairfield, CA) tried to pull a fast one on me. These suckers tried pass off a breakfest streak as a sirloin. Get this, me and Kevin had the same menu and his steak was thick and juicy (rare).
I told the waiter... what's up with this steak being so thin. He told me, "since I wanted my steak medium well, the cook had to butter fly it to make it cook properly." Anyway, he came back with a thick steak that didn't smell right. I refused the crappy steak so he took it off the tag. A Warning sign; thus we left.

Hey... why did KL go all the way to Cali to buy a Ducati? Surely there's a dealer closer...? Dallas or somesuch.
Maybe the dealership is not the point?... but the journey back, huh?
Yep. He got a better deal on the same model in CA despite flying out to CA. The rare 2008 Ducati had 400 miles on the engine of which only a few were made in that particular model. Kevin had nearly $800 bucks in accessories and the shop charged him about $200 bucks in labor for installation. The engine computer and possibly other items was bumped up by the previous owner with all of the extra goodies (his lost--- Kevin's gain).
The big suit case (btw.. no dead body inside) housed the OEM seat (expensive sucker) and other items from the bike. Kevin upgraded to a gel seat for the long haul back to OK via CO, UT, and Kansas. I was instructed to insured the suit case for 1k. That was one of the reason why I wanted to be picked up right away at the UHaul place. Besides, I didn't want to explain to officers why there's a 9mm case inside (for I know they'd pat me down looking for the gun. You might get car jacked riding a Ducati. Roll prepared!

Cool story....other than getting a ticket! You might want to mention that Kevin is the owner of Design 1 Systems. Many people probably already knew that, but there are some n00bs that may not know.
Still not sure why you would get a ticket for a CARB approved part......I'm sure it'll get dropped, but what a hassle. Sort of reminds me of my loud exhaust ticket I got in Minnesota (a state that I will never visit again). I had just bought the car literally an hour before getting pulled over and had no idea it was so loud before buying it (exhaust system was butchered). Anywho.....it was only a $500 fine. Cash. Right now. As in, you can't leave Minnesota until you fork over the money, otherwise you'll spend the night in the clink! Minnesota sucks!!
Good luck!
