get it?... Time Magazine... and they used 'Time' in the title...
(sorry, I get easily amused)

Here's the link to the article, and below the list, you can click on the decade you want to browse.
The writing style is short, funny, and semi-factual... also the pics take me back to memories of some of those cars...
A lot of cars I REALLY like made this list... DeLorean tops among them.

http://www.time.com/time/sp...t/0,,1658545,00.html

My favorite entry however, was the description of 1956 Renault Dauphine:

"The most ineffective bit of French engineering since the Maginot Line, the Renault Dauphine was originally to be named the Corvette, tres ironie. It was, in fact, a rickety, paper-thin scandal of a car that, if you stood beside it, you could actually hear rusting. Its most salient feature was its slowness, a rate of acceleration you could measure with a calendar. It took the drivers at Road and Track 32 seconds to reach 60 mph, which would put the Dauphine at a severe disadvantage in any drag race involving farm equipment. The fact that the ultra-cheap, super-sketchy Dauphine sold over 2 million copies around the world is an index of how desperately people wanted cars. Any cars."

especially this part:
"32 seconds to reach 60 mph, which would put the Dauphine at a severe disadvantage in any drag race involving farm equipment.
I guess I didn't know that Renault made the 4.9L? (I keed, I keed )

That could have been at least an entertaining automotive article; if only the moronic f@cksticks at time/cnn could publish anything without making it a political hack job piece. I especially enjoyed the personal attack on Dick Cheney; great addition to any automotive piece.

Considering the guy's obvious anti big vehicle bias, I'm surprised the suburban wasn't on the list.

And putting the Ford Explorer on the list because it led to the SportUte craze.

1985 bubba... the Yugo.

"Malcolm Bricklin, he of the Bricklin SV1, wouldn't be satisfied until he had forced every American to walk to work. To that end, in 1985, he began importing the Yugo GV, which turned out to be the Mona Lisa of bad cars. Built in Soviet-bloc Yugoslavia, the Yugo had the distinct feeling of something assembled at gunpoint. Interestingly, in a car where "carpet" was listed as a standard feature, the Yugo had a rear-window defroster — reportedly to keep your hands warm while you pushed it. The engines went ka-blooey, the electrical system — such as it was — would sizzle, and things would just fall off. Yugo. Or not.

Although I LOVE the Bricklin... gimme angles, lotsa and lotsa angles...

hey... I never said it was a perfect list... but I did enjoy reading it and arguing (in my head) about it...
