Hey Fierobear. We rarely agree. But even from my perspective this party switch is not a good thing. Republicans who have great ideas, like Bob Corker and many from John McCain will now be silenced as the filibuster for Republicans is dead. The Republicans may be glad to get rid of him but I don't like the idea that free speech from many good people has now ended.

Absolute power is a bad idea. As difficult as it is to face it, that goes for both sides, including Republicans. It would seem the best thing for we, the citizens, is for there to be a balance of power and a lot of "logjam" in government. When either side has complete control, with the minority party powerless, it's not a good thing. So yes, we do agree. And it looks like a rough road ahead for the country.

Term Limits, ! Just another career politician not wanting to lose his job. He feels that he can not win as a Republican, . His ideals have not changed. The switch, if you can call it that, is a good thing for the Republican's. He was one which caused the opinion that Republicans had lost their core values.

And this has any bearing how? Specter has been a RINO for a while now. They keep talking about a filibusterer-proof 60. As isf Specter would have sided with the republicans on anything anyway... At least he's putting a proper label to his voting habits...
Hell, for that matter, there are very few conservatives left. The days of Right and Left have been gone for the better part of a century. We're now solidly in Left and Lefter...
Don't forget, the primary reason he switched parties was because he was going to face very tough competition in the GOP primary. Many had predicted he would lose that election. Since he gets much better poll results with Democrats than he does with Republicans, switching to (D) gives him a much better shot at re-election.

I'm not a Republican nor do I care about Arlen Specter, because he is Pennsylvania's problem.
But I will say that Arlen Specter is an egomanic assshole. He is a part of a huge problem that we have in Congress, in that these politicians cannot give up their seat for anything. They believe that they are so self-important that once in Congress, they must have the position for life.
So you get asssholes like Specter (and there are many of them) with 30 years in Congress, he is 81 years old and the only reason he switched to Dimocrat is because he wants to be re-elected.
Phucking give up and let fresh blood in. Our Founding Fathers never intended for professional lawmakers and to have careers and life-time employment as elected servants in our government.
TIME FOR TERM LIMITS!
Mr. Magic Bullet ASSSHOLE!
