This is sad... Humanity is so single minded in it's materialism...

Wal-Mart worker trampled to death

A Wal-Mart worker died after being trampled when hundreds of shoppers smashed through the doors of a Long Island store Friday morning, police and witnesses said.

The 34-year-old worker, employed as an overnight stock clerk, tried to hold back the unruly crowds just after the Valley Stream store opened at 5 a.m.

Witnesses said the surging throngs of shoppers knocked the man down. He fell and was stepped on. As he gasped for air, shoppers ran over and around him.

"He was bum-rushed by 200 people," said Jimmy Overby, 43, a co-worker. "They took the doors off the hinges. He was trampled and killed in front of me. They took me down too...I literally had to fight people off my back."

The unidentified victim was rushed to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:03 a.m., police said.

The cause of death wasn't immediately available pending results of an autopsy.

A 28-year-old pregnant woman was knocked to the floor during the mad rush. She was hospitalized for observation, police said. Early witness accounts that the woman suffered a miscarriage were unfounded, police said.

Three other shoppers suffered minor injuries, cops said.

Before police shut down the store, eager shoppers streamed past emergency crews as they worked furiously to save the store clerk's life.

"They were working on him, but you could see he was dead, said Halcyon Alexander, 29. "People were still coming through."

Only a few stopped.

"They're savages," said shopper Kimberly Cribbs, 27. "It's sad. It's terrible."

Very sad...

I've been at some stores where people turned into insane animals. I avoid the "sales".
I used to LOVE to go to last-day store closings, but NO more...

You can get em to do that for a couple bucks off but you can't get em excited to vote for their rights.
Unbelievable. Truly a species that is de-evolving.

I wonder if between the CSI techniques and in store surveillance if we won't see some people go down for this! I certainly hope so.

Oh, and these people ARE the ones who voted this year, obviously.

Ahh yes. The Christmas spirit, alive and well in all of those Walmart shoppers.

huh? a 70% turnout isn't big enough for you? Would you rather they pushed and trampled their way through the lines that were around the block also?

sadly for some reason I feel like this will be looked at as an "accident", and will just disappear with Wal-mart paying off the family.

Sounds like a "lawsuit" against Wal-Mart. News at 11.

Seriously, they need to lower the person in on a wire (Mission Impossible) or have a robot open the doors during Black Fridays. People are just plain nuts.

Note to self; don't stand in front of a stampede or drive the Fiero to a mall during Black Fridays.

Ya, they can't sue all the people who walked over him, and it was hardly Walmarts fault either.

Wait until everyone is inside, seal the building and nuke it from orbit.

Anyone remember the stampeed at Three Rivers Stadium that killed 11 kids before a concert? They banned festival seating after that.

There is no reason that a 34 year old man should loose his life opening a door for shoppers. The retail stores need to be held responsible, they hype this into oblivion to bring in the shoppers, maybe this is a wake up call?

Gun shots ring out in Toys R Us, two men dead, shoppers scramble for their lives.

What people don't realize is that one person can't push very hard. But if you get a line of 10, 20, 100 people pushing each others backs, by the time you get to the front of the line there is some massive force there.

From what Im told, Walmart was a complete rip off anyway.

Apparenlty they stocked one isle with the pallets of "sale items" when those were sold out, shoppers were told "were out of those sale items, but the exact same items can be found in this isle, but at normal pricing"

I hope someone goes down for that, thats just plain dirty. I was told they were allready paying for it, at 8am the people I talked to said they walked right up to the register with no lines.

This is absolutely disgusting. I've been losing faith in humanity for a long time, but this is beyond anything I have seen before. I say Black Friday sales should be banned. My deepest sympathies go to the workers family.

Between this, the double shooting in the CA Toys R Us and slow sales, yesterday may be dubbed "Red Friday".
