This is for those who are too young to remember the last message of doom. I labeled it as 'Politics' because that's where it belongs!

http://www.pdfdownload.org/...world.pdf&images=yes

Hmpf! Worksforme! It is an html view of a pdf. Try this.

http://www.wmconnolley.org....eek-coolingworld.pdf

Tried it in both FF and IE7 and the pdf loads. With FF you will be given an option to view in html.

It worked fine for me.

All the pollution from the cars in the 50's and 60's must have been causing it.

Wait, that's what's causing our problems now.

Maybe it was just fluctuations in solar output all along.

At least back in the day, the doomsayers had the decency to wear sandwich boards proclaiming "The end is near"

The file works for me. A few excerpts:

"The central fact is that after three quarters of a century of extraordinarily mild conditions, the earth's climate seems to be cooling down."

"A survey completed last year by Dr. Murray Mitchell of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reveals a drop of half a degree in average ground temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere between 1945 and 1968. According to George Kukla of Columbia University, satellite photos indicated a sudden, large increase in Northern Hemisphere snow cover in the winter of 1971-72. And a study released last month by two NOAA scientists notes tha the amount of sunshine reaching the ground in the continental U.S. diminished by 1.3% between 1964 and 1972."

"...the earth's average temperature during the great Ice Ages was only about 7° lower than during its warmest eras - and that the present decline has taken the planet about a sixth of the way toward the Ice Age average."

"Climatologists are pessimistic that political leaders will take any positive action to compensate for the climatic change, or even to allay its effects. ... The longer the planners delay, the more difficult will they find it to cope with the climatic change once the results become grim reality."

OMG!! GLOBAL COOLING!!! Quick - everyone buy SUVS!!!
Where was Al Gore during all this? He was in law school from '74 - '76, although he never got a degree. He dropped out to run for a seat in the House of Representatives. No doubt to tackle the immediate threat of Global Cooling.

"Gore was one of the first politicians to grasp the seriousness of climate change and to call for a reduction in emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouses gases. He held the first congressional hearings on the subject in the late 1970s."

Hmm, I wonder if those were meetings about Global Warming or Global Cooling?

the first link doesn't work for me, that 2nd one does.

guess the kinda missed that huh? mass famine, northern countries freezing up. melt the ice caps on purpose? i guess i don't mind offering possibilities, but when you offer an idea and then back it up with science...well it makes it hard to believe anything.

What about Acid Rain, for which we suddenly have solved.
That was the scare of our generation.
