Well, almost. Hit 99.99 cents US before settling at 99.75. By Christmas we are supposed to be sitting at around 1.04 cents US, the highest the dollar has ever been. Strangely enough, no prices have changed for us Canucks though. A $30,000 GM car still costs us $60,0000; a $4.99 US magazine or book still costs us $9.00; and the list goes on. The only way it seems for us to take advantage of our high dollar is to travel south of the border and buy goods down there. There was a blurb on the news last night and apparently most Canadian retaillers are still pricing goods as if our Canadian dollar was worth 60 cents US. Some companies such as GM have said that with the dollar constantly changing that it is not worth their time to adjust the prices of goods and that it would only confuse customers. Anywhoo - methinks its time for a road trip down south to pick up a hooptie.

We spent all august down in the states, drove down to kansas then drove across to georgia and up the coast. It was nice with that exchange rate towards previous years lol

Harborfreight was fun.. went there 3 times lol

picked up a tow bar for $44.xx USD when the identical one here is $224 CDN.

OK, I'm probably the only one on the Forum that doesn't know what a "hooptie" is. Please elaborate.

Ya a hooptie would be an auto that you may be particularly proud of, or that is special. In my own words.

The Canadian dollar reaching the US's is probably more like the decline of the US bill. Form what I hear thats bringing alot of money closer to ours, or higher than ours.

Woohoo, the last time the Canuck buck was at par with the American greenback was more than 30 years ago!

It was only six years ago that the Canadian dollar was worth a measly 61.79 cents US.

Here's a news report on the rise and fall and rise again of the Canadian dollar.

Looks like a lot more purchases from American sellers on eBay is in the cards for me.

I am bidding on several items on ebay as we speak. the dollar has never been stronger (that I can remember).

My boss actually put an order in today for a Mercedes AMG 6xx SL down in Florida. He told me that after he pays for the car to be retro fitted to Canadiabn crash standards, that he will have saved more than my yearly salary...

If you really feel like gambling you can take some of your Canadian money and trade it for the US Dollar; then wait for the Canadian dollar to drop again, then trade it back. Make money just for holding money. It's a win win. Unless of course the US dollar drops even further.

Whew! I can go to bed this evening feeling good, I've learned something today. It may be totally useless information but, I asked for it and now, I've got it. Don't know what I'm going to do with it or how I'll ever use it but I now know what a Hooptie is. I'm prepared to use it to unknown ends and I feel good about myself. Obviously, it doesn't take much to satisfy me. Thanks for the information.
