A new doomsday event may happen in 2029 and it's not cause by Al Gore's Global Warming.

Friday the 13th of April 2029 could be a very unlucky day for planet Earth. At 4:36 a.m. Greenwich Mean Time, a 25-million-ton, 820-foot-wide asteroid called 99942 Apophis will slice across the orbit of the moon and barrel toward Earth at more than 28,000 mph. The huge pockmarked rock, two-thirds the size of Devils Tower in Wyoming, will pack the energy of 65,000 Hiroshima bombs -- enough to wipe out a small country or kick up an 800-foot tsunami.

We're due for a large strike event. No way to guarantee Apophis will hit the earth but it may come close.

What can ya do though?

When people stop predicting doomsday events, THAT'S when the world as we know it will end.

Notice how its the 13th day, and the numbers in the year add up to 13, and the numbers in the projected time of contact add up to 13.

Thanks for bringing us this up- The year before that bad-boy comes, I'm going to max out all my credit cards on Lap Dances!

The Head of the Astronomy division of the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History was on C-Span this weekend, and he describes this in great detail.
On Friday the 13th in April 2029, Apophis will graze our atmosphere at an altitude lower than some of our satelites.
Its' orbit will cause it to return 7 years later- April 13, 2036. Impact is 500 miles off the California coast.
All these predictions are pretty much theroretical- Physics are pretty accurate, but variables make exactness difficult.

His recommendation?
Buy land in nevada- future Beach-front property!

That's not the pass that we have to worry about, it's the one about 7 years later. If that pass in 2029 hits a "gravitational keyhole" about 500m wide (imagine trying to hit a baseball as the pitcher throws it with a golfball from the bleachers) it WILL impact in 2036.

But for 2029, I have to quote Ray Kurzweil.

"The year is 2029, the machines will have convinced us that they are conscious, that they have their own agenda worthy of our respect. They'll embody Human qualities, they'll claim to be Human, and we'll Believe them."

"2029, there is a growing discussion about the legal rights of computers and what constitutes being Human."

From "The Age of Spiritual Machines - When Computers Exceed Human Intelligence"

So, if the asteroid knocks out SkyNet, we'll all be OK, right?
