I was thinking of starting a small contracting business (part-time-light excavating, landscaping and handyman type services.) I think general liability of $1,000,000 would be wise, and I am willing to have a high deductable of $5,000. I had hoped this would cost $300-$500 per year or so. Does this seem resonable, or am I way too low?

I think your going to have extra high rates since your obviously on drugs A personal liability policy should cost about that much, one to cover your business will cost quite a bit more. Best bet is to talk to several insurance agents. You can also probably get online quotes.

Don't come over to Australia to do that a you would need a minimum of $10,000,000 liabilty insurance among other regulations to meet. I know of guys in that business paying $300 to $500 a week insurance.
