I wonder how the 14-yo even knew how to start it? When I was that age I didn't know you had to have the clutch in to start a car. And unless he gave it some gas, or just let up on the clutch real slow, wouldn't the Mustang just stall?
His father is fully to blame for raising such an idiot. He is probably an even bigger idiot for letting a 14 year old kid with NO experience have the keys, and hop into his 500 hp car.
I hate Mustangs, so I'm gonna have to say I did get some enjoyment out of watching that .

HUH ????????
14 and you didn't know how to use a clutch????????---------did you need masturbation instructions as well ?? Si I can take it you didnt drive a tractor either.
I can see your childhood was well-spent. You would have been a fantastic asset to a convent.........where they keep the rest of the useless pussy's.

Heh not everyone was a redneck growing up on a farm like you. We don't have any need for "tractors" around here. Besides, back then I didn't give a flying **** about cars so actively seeking out how to drive a stickshift was pretty low on my priorities. That all changed when I turned 15 and I learned how to drive, after that I gained an appreciation for cars.
Useless? You're the one living out your life, insane and antisocial in the deep country. I've seen your posts, I bet I'll read about you in 5 years when you bomb a crowded area because of your dislike for people.
Edit: Also. You see that little bar under your name? It just lost a little green. At this rate, you'll be gone in no time .

One of the odd things about this video is that he turns the key, the starter kicks in, the engine starts, then it rolls Maybe I'm old fashioned, but if he didn't put in the clutch, wouldn't it have lurched forward with the starter?

I'm in the same boat... couldn't figure out why it wouldn't crank (hello, the shifter was in neutral, so wtf?). Kid probably thought it wouldn't move unless you pushed the gas... somewhat logical thinking there. Meh. Also note how long he was sitting in the car before starting it. Probably trying to figure it out.
As far as stalling it, well, with that much power I don't think a straight forward motion with no gas would stall that powerful an engine. But... to shoot it straight forward like that? I dunno, maybe old man driver's syndrome took him and made him think gas = brake :P
But being made in Windows Movie Maker... that video ain't fake. XD

the clutch must be pushed in for the engine to start. I bet the car was left in first gear (like your supposed to do) and when the kid let the clutch out it started going, he freaked out and it didnt stall until he hit the house. With a soft touch you can get alot of cars rolling without hitting the gas. Just slowly letting out the clutch. If he didnt have the parking break on it would do exactly like it did.

You're trying to give JohnnyK a heart attack. Right?
hahahha. Thats been all over the classic mustang board.. I actually haven't clicked it until now.. Ugh, that must be sickening..
I think as stated, the kid musta had the clutch in the floor (I'm sure at some point someone told him that) and the car would probably be in first I would hope, and then he let out the clutch, and freaked out cause it lurches a bit..

Eh, I learned to drive with a stick, but I guess we had a few different techniques... last thing we always did before shutting off the car was put it in neutral. Then again I live in a very flat area; not many hills to avoid rolling down. :P
So now it becomes quite obvious how the car crashing predicament is totally feasible.
Technically, when you "park" a car with a manual transmission you're supposed to put it in 1st or Reverse, and if you're on any kind of incline you use the parking brake. The car won't go anywhere when parked in 1st or reverse unless it pops out of gear. It uses the engine and the compression of the engine to hold it in place. Its kind of hilly around here so I use the parking brake a lot, but on level ground I usually just put it in 1st. Heck, I usually use the parking brake on my '88 (automatic) to save wear on the transmission and the little parking pin.
It looks like the car was parked in 1st gear, and the kid must've been trying stuff to make it start. I'm guessing he eventually pushed the clutch in enough to activate the safety switch, and either the starter pushed the car forward (clutch not ALL the way in) and got him going and he freaked (car started too), or he got it started, let up on the clutch and the thing took off. You don't need to give it gas to get it going, if you let out on the clutch slowly in a Fiero the car will get going with no gas. Maybe with 500 hp he could've popped it a little and the car still would've taken off?

how can someone that can afford a car like that be so stupid?
i always park a standard in reverse and set the e-brake.
oh and i can testify for under8ted, i knew how to drive a tractor when i was six. when i came to driving cars it was easy, you didn't have to stop and put it in another gear.

A friend parked my 67 Firebird on a hill with the trans in first. Parking brake didn't work. The car rolled and started. Good thing she turned the wheels towards the curb when she parked and we were still in the car! I've always put the car in a high gear after that and still have the habit.

if you put it in a high gear it will roll even easier

Underst8ed, did you go to a catholic school with nuns who believed in strict disipline or do you just believe women are only good for reproduction? And here I was thinking you couldn't get any more offensive without being banned. We Fiero owner's must be the most forgiving group on the internet.

Hell, my Escort will roll without gas in first gear. You have to be careful, though.
The parking brake in the red '95 doesn't work (yet) so I turn the wheels and put it in either reverse or first gear. I prefer reverse for two main reasons: it's a lower ratio than first is; and I learned to drive stick in a GM car made in the 1980s. (You couldn't take the keys out unless the transmission was in "reverse".)

I suppose you kinda have to be a car buff, but it seems strange to me that someone at age 14 would lack a basic understanding of how a car is driven. By that age I had helped to rebuild cars, ridden small motorcycles, etc.

Yep.. I had a beater field car at age 11, a 1980 sunbird. And at 14 I had 2 motorcycles, a 78KZ200 and 78KZ400 for the fields and backroads

None of my manuals needed the clutch pushed in.

Half proud to say that I didn't get my first car (at least to drive, legally) until I was 20... but I actually took the controls of a plane when I was 17. Top that, bitches!

Now [we] now know what happens when the [elderly] gets behind the wheel and doesn't know where's the brake are, hehe. I was expecting to hear a girly cry out from the kid while the car moved forward or the father holding his testicles??? That would have been....priceless.
