PM sent your way, Nick. Thanks for posting this puzzle - it was fun, and very much enjoyed the mental exercise.

If anyone cares at this point: Along the way I wondered if there was perhaps an electric fan in the window, and the outside man somehow enticed the blind guy toward it (the cane hitting the fan blades, shavings blowing into the room, or some such), eventually killing the guy somehow...? The "anyone/anything else alive in the room" was toward thinking an animal (or something) chewed up the end of the cane - maybe the guy fought off a dog, or whatever. Also, when we learned that the "inside" dwarf was deceived some way by a shortened cane, began to wonder if the intent was to make the him think he was going down a (spiral?) stairway, perhaps to escape to a (nonexistent) cellar or something like that, to safety (from what I don't know - a tornado?). Stretches, yes, but they all ran through my mind.

Thanks again, Nick !

Good job Stu!!
I often think that there should be things like this in school curriculi, to stimulate thought process in an interesting way. Mathematics USED to do that, but the thought process needed in our school years studying maths has been somewhat usurped by the allowing of calculators etc. We used to say 'what the heck good is this for future life'..well, it is only when we get old, that we realise the education system then, was far more useful in indirectly stimulating thought process..it wasn't the 'end' that was unilaterally important, but the route to the end was 'brain food', or mental excercise. That is why we were given these things to do then!! I never use a calculator, and can add and subtract and multiply mentally far quicker, as a rule, than somebody with a calculator..example in shops..I wonder if Zager and Evans realised how close to reality their song 'In the year 2525' would become..'some machine will be doing that for you'...In The Year 2525 Lyrics

In the year 2525
If man is still alive
If woman can survive
They may find

In the year 3535
Ain't gonna need to tell the truth, tell no lie
Everything you think, do and say
Is in the pill you took today

In the year 4545
You ain't gonna need your teeth, won't need your eyes
You won't find a thing to chew
Nobody's gonna look at you

In the year 5555
Your arms hangin' limp at your sides
Your legs got nothin' to do
Some machine's doin' that for you

In the year 6565
You won't need no husband, won't need no wife
You'll pick your son, pick your daughter too
From the bottom of a long glass tube

In the year 7510
If God's a-coming, He oughta make it by then
Maybe He'll look around Himself and say
"Guess it's time for the judgement day"

In the year 8510
God is gonna shake His mighty head
He'll either say "I'm pleased where man has been"
Or tear it down, and start again

In the year 9595
I'm kinda wonderin' if man is gonna be alive
He's taken everything this old earth can give
And he ain't put back nothing

Now it's been ten thousand years
Man has cried a billion tears
For what, he never knew
Now man's reign is through

But through eternal night
The twinkling of starlight
So very far away

I think the timescale has shrunk from 1010 year cycles to more like 10 year cycles.. about the only thing they got wrong, IMHO
Nick

No problem..but I guess you would get more reaction to it in a thread of its own
Ironic, eh..CheshireGrin..I am a Cheshire Cat!! Born in Cheshire, UK..Hahaha!!

Now...did the bikes contribute to his death?
Are they all upright?
Is anybody else present?
Was the man riding one of these bikes when he died?
Nick

If this is the same riddle which I'm thinking of, you have the number of bicycles wrong. Check your PMs.

Got it!!!...errrr...I think Bicycles is the clue..and I would never have guessed, because the terminology is American..so I looked up 'bicycles' as slang..and they are a type of playing card..54 playing cards..only poker uses the jokers, as far as I know..and he was maybe cheating at cards, and got shot..and the cards fell out of his hand to the floor...errrm..long shot..but is it near the mark?
