Talk about much a do about NOTHING!

Frankly, the Democrats, once again, shot themselves in the foot by being defensive over NOTHING! This whole movie was about the CIA and the FBI and their inability to work together, the bureaucracy involved in getting anything done in Washington, John O'Neill's death, and the fact that Ambassador Bodine was a total ***** ! Bush and Clinton barely got a mention.

WHAT THE HELL WAS THE BIG DEAL?

All the liberals have done is draw attention to their lack of ability to take a little critisim. This movie was JUST as critical of the current administration's failures as it was to the Previous but you don't hear Bush whining like a little school girl about it.

Chalk one "acting like an adult about it" point up for the GOP.

On this we are in total agreement. What really disgusts me is that so few of the 41 recommendations put forward by the 911 Commission have been realized. Our Homeland Security should not be so political. The newscast that was on after the end of the "movie" even showed where Lobbist were thwarting the process and changes that would make us all safer. I don't honestly know that every recommendation made by the 911 Commission were totally appropriate but they sure seem to make sense. Example, what's the big deal with making anyone buying Fertilizer prove with Government issued photo ID who they are and tracking their purchases. Don't get me wrong, I use the same stuff on my pasture. My right to privacy is and should be superceeded by the pubilc's security needs. I don't see that this requirement puts an undo burden on any retailer to gather this information and forward it to the appropriate agency. Ask the folks in Oklahoma City how they feel about it.

Thank you for fighting to stop Social Security privatization--again.

Socialist Security is a giant ponzi scheme. It is totally insolvent. What part of that can't you understand? It is the greatest fraud in the history of the planet. It cannot be saved. People like you bury your head in the sand and refuse to see the truth. There is absolutly no way the future benefits can be paid-it is not fiscally possible. I don't know whether Bush's scheme will work or not. It can't be any worse than the cruel joke we have now.

"He who would trade freedom for security deserves neither freedom or security"(Or something close to this) Benjiman Franklin. I can't imagine it being said any better. Such a shame!

I know the quote you mean. It sure is a great sound bite but unfortunately, untrue.

For example, do you wear a seat belt? If so, you have sacrificed a little freedom for a little security.

Have you ever called the police for any reason? If so, you have sacrificed a little freedom for a little security.

Have you ever locked your front door before going to bed? If so, you have sacrificed a little freedom for a little security.

The question is not should we sacrifice some freedom for some security but how much. Where is the limit? How much freedom are we willing to forego for how much security. It is a cost versus reward equation.

Sure I could drive around with no seat belt on but what happens to my kids if I get killed in a car crash? I sacrifice a little freedom willingly. Now if, on the other hand, the government mandated that I be forced to travel by ox cart everywhere then I think I would revolt.

Larry,
I understand where you're coming from and to a certain extent I agree but, there is always a price to be paid for security. I won't disagree with your point but I would suggest there are a number of folks in NY, and OKC that would disagree with the quote. How close does the war have to come to us before we see the light? It comes down to how secure do you and I want to be. It makes me feel much more secure when driving knowing there are stiff penalties and Jail time associated with getting caught driving while impaired. So I've lost the freedom to drink or whatever and drive. I can live with that.

During WWII, there were some severe limitations placed on the public in the name of National Security, yes that was war. The restrictions were lifted at the conclusion of WWII, we are currently at war with an enemy that wants to destroy not just our military but you, I, our children and everything we hold dear. I can't live with that.
