i found this, and when i opened Control Center, i have 2.6.11-smp so that's the updates i'm going with so i think "c" is done. and a reboot just for the hell of it.

I saw that some people have problem with the DLink DWL-G510.
It is pretty simple, check first when hou open "Control Center" the version of your kernel (2.6.11-x1) it is important to check if it's x1 or smp. Now check if you have ndiswrapper by opening "Xandros networks" and do a search with the word "ndiswrapper", in the bottom, hit the "expert" and you gonna see differents versions of ndiswrapper, look if the one for your system is install, if not, do it.

Now step “d” was a little different It under Control Center/Network/Network Connection on the left side.
Then on the right you click the wireless folder tab. Then in the lower right is a button “Windows NDIS Wireless Drivers…” Click on that and it brought up a new window to install the drivers. So I think “d” is done
Open Xandros File Manager. Go up to view and select “”show all file systems” Now on the left side go All File Systems/”/”/etc/ But I don’t see a folder called modules
I do have “modutils”
So now what? I’m gonna take a brake before I break something.
Be back in about an hour.

You are logged in as root "administrator" correct?
Modules is not a folder in /etc. It is a config file and written in text editor.
Make sure you are in root and that "view hidden files" is marked under view menu. Modules will be a text file below the folders in /etc/. Make your entry in the text file and save.

that helped alot.
i put the line "ndiswrapper" at the very bottom of this list
Ok. I don’t know what to do next. Both lights flash simultaneously on my NIC just like it does when I have connected to a WiFi spot. But I cant get to any websites.
I plug in my hard wired LAN cable and poof! I’m looking at (EDITED: cause you really don’t want to know what I look at)

try to ping your router: ping [router IP address, often this is 192.168.0.1]( you have to already know the address, open Administrator console and type "ping:address" no quotes...
i am logged on as root, where is the "console"
i tried "Run Command" and then typed in "ping:192.168.0.1" and was told, "could not run the specified command"
in a windows CMD box i would type "ping 192.168.0.1" and then i would get 4 responces back with time constrants.
ok, this time i tried "Run Command" and then typed in "ping 192.168.0.1" and the run command window went bye-bye with no errors and without displaying any results.
signing off now. i'm gonna go watch Milla Jovovich in Ultraviolet. ya, it's gonna be ultra corny, but it's Milla Jovovich!!!

I'm at a Mepis box right now, but if memory serves the Admin Console is in the menu under "System Tools" or some such thing. Just surf through your menu list you will run into it.
Remember when logging in to the Admin shell:
Login as "su" and provide root password.

Actually Ultraviolet wasn't too bad, i went in knowing that it was going to be a B grade movie, so i wasn't disappointed, and Milla is always hot
ok, back to business.
i haven't changed anything since last night BUT I’M CONNECTED.
Other than I know how to open a command line But you guys call it a console Go Launch>Applications>System>Administrator Tools> Console (administrator) Or Launch>Applications>System>Console
Now to try to set up some sort of security on my wireless router.

I’m done. Thanks for trying to help a windows user. i've waisted 4 nights on this.
It was not a waste. You learned a lot about Linux in the process, any time we learn the time is not wasted.
Linux is just not ready for you
Maybe you could find a $10 desktop at a garage sale and continue your experiments with it, believe it or not they are out there (I bought a 500 Mghz machine once at a yard sale for $5). Learning Linux over time through tinkering is how a lot of folks learn the system. There are also some good books out there, avoid the "for idiots" books though.
Cheers
