We got a call about this yesterday but really didn't believe it until we got more information and it is, unfortunately, true. A young lady Chris graduated high school with and was in college with (and dated for several months, the romance didn't last but they stayed close friends) was murdered Tuesday. From what we've heard, she was trying to break up with a loser of a boyfriend and she became so frightened of him she had moved back home with her parents in Russell (making about a 40 minute commute to school). Apparently sometime after class on Tuesday, he found her and got her to a remote area and strangled her.

Angela was a very bright, and generally happy girl. We've known here since she and Chris were in grade school together. This is a very, very tragic thing for her, her family, and her friends. If it turns out the way it appears, I hope he never sees the outside of a jail cell again in his lifetime.

My condolences, John. Things like this really make you stop and wonder what the world is coming to. You think you're insulated from things like this happening when you live in a small town, but it happens today with more frequency than we realize. As you said in the title of this thread, it's senseless...a promising life ended way too soon, and for no good reason. I'm with you...I hope this guy spends the rest of his life in prison.

Employees at Hastings Books Music and Video are coping with the news that Land, one of the store's associates, is connected to the incident.

"It's most definitely out of character to hear this about him," Hastings store leader Penny Hunter said. "He was usually cheery and easy to get along with. We never had any problems."

Its disturbing to think that someone who has lived in our society for 32 years can snap so unexpectedly.
I hope Angela is in a better place.

Maybe so. Maybe not. Not disagreeing, just think it always has been and always will. Information is more available today and we hear about it more.
So sad John, sorry for the pain of those affected.

Geez John, you have our sympathies. What a waste. When will people learn that you can not control another human mind. You get dumped, you get over it. This kind of thing is seemingly increasing in frequency too. Maybe it is or maybe it's just perception but its a frightening realization just the same.

You and your family have our deepest sympathies, John.

My sister's best friend was killed by her former boyfriend back in 2001. We'll never forget the day that my sister showed up at our house in tears, telling us what what had happened. Here's a link to the story. The strange thing is, the artical stated that my sister's best friend used drugs; and my sister said that she never seen her take drugs a day in her life.
