Not to sound like a prick, but sounds like they had more money then brains. The car has performance yes! but is the driver capable of it. I can imagine wanting to test the car to the max and see the full potential.

Sad to say but you know it is true,...... somewhere some salvage guys are licking their chops, although to me their does not look like much is salvagable ? Looks pretty mangled up.
Prayers go out to the families of those killed.
* Edit to include, especially saddened as this was a fiero person ! **

Okay, apparently seeing only the crash photos without any insight is starting some trash-talk, so let's set the record straight from what I know. It's raging on the Corvette forum and other boards around the globe.
The crash occurred because a Ferrari was waiting to enter the track from the paddock, which is midway down the high-speed straight. The pit marshal was holding him until there was an opening, then cleared him to go. He did not go when instructed, and the pit marshal instructed him to continue to hold. He ignored the pit marshal's instruction and pulled out onto the track as the Carerra was coming at him at speeds in excess of 150mph. The Carerra had to swerve to miss him, and the driver lost control. It wasn't the Carerra's fault, it wasn't the pit marshal's fault. It was the Ferrari's fault. However, racing is like skiing - you must drive at a speed at which you can maintain control at all times or pay the price. They both died doing what they loved and there's no better way to go - although it might have been a bit too soon.
ouch well I take back what I said, guess when it comes to tracks you always have to take in consideration other people are there and don't care. That's a shame if he would've waited all would have been fine, but the other guy was all in a big freaking rush I'm sure he's not feeling the greatest though, I sure as hell wouldn't be.

I thought the Name Cory Rudl was familiar. He has quite the Internet as well as direct mail order and marketing empire. Too bad to see such an innovator pass. He was doing what we all should be, living at 100% until your number is up. Having survivived (so far) at bout with cancer this winter, it is much easier to understand this principle.
Cory had lots of good stuff on how to make money via direct mail and the internet.
