In response to a discussion on IQs in another thread I thought you all might like to know your own. This is unofficial. It is only 40 questions and most IQ tests are 150. But it covers the basics of linguistics, math, spacial recognition, and logic. Your results will be fairly accurate (within 5 points either way, unless you are REALLY smart and get 36 or more right). If you get 36 or more right your real IQ may be off by as much as 10 or more. Remember, it is a relatively easy test with no time limit, not indicative of a really challenging IQ exam which is timed, proctores, and with generally harder questions.
The test is free and so is your score. BUT if you want to see what you got right or wrong then you need to order the report for $15.
If you REALLY want to know the right answers but don't have $15 and don't care to see where you fit in the percentiles, etc. I have the correct answers and can send them to you to see where you went right or wrong.
Have fun!

Good site.. Rie and I are about to go to Vegas for the weekend but I'll check it out when I get back.. My last IQ test was 146... I don't know if I've gotten smart or dumber in the last 25 years though! haha
What's that equation for basing it on SAT scores, Todd? I scored 1320 on my SATs 22 years ago.

IQ tests are awful. Society has forced them into a roll they were never meant to fill - namely an intellectual wiener-measuring contest. Something I stole from Goethe: if we try to reduce the nature of some phenomena down to a scale, we replace the natural splendor of the phenomenon with that of the nature of the scale. Goethe was, of course, a truly remarkable man.
That being said, I'm eagerly waiting to go to grad school to get my PhD in chemistry... the only thing i can't stand are the 'intellectuals' there who measure their worth by numbers and not accomplishments.
So... yeah... stay away from them IQ tests... nothin' but trouble.

I got a 135, woohoo! This seems pretty accurate, I've taken a few other tests online and got around the same number. I am so smart, S-M-R-T, I mean, S-M-A-R-T.. hehe

I got a 137 on a test I took a few months ago. Had to nap for several weeks to recover from the brain drain.
From what I hear, IQ tests are less and less relevant as you get older because age is also a factor. So a 150 IQ for a 70 year old would mean something different than a 150 IQ for a 25 year old.

The number is meaningless... its allows intellectually insecure people a reason to think they can pat someone on the head. "OMG I CAN TOTALLY TAKE THIS TEST BETTER THAN YOU LOL!!!!11one"
silly.

I can tell you that that particular test tops out at 153...
Actually, it maxes out at 144. Too bad at least one of the answers they consider right is actually wrong, and one question has two right answers, but one of them they consider wrong.
I just took the test and scored 124...rather lower than my score when I took the IQ test, as did everybody else in the UK,which was 137...grey cells are dying, folks!! fierofetish ps I am a visual mathematician, whatever that means!! curiousity compels me to ask for the answers, too, Todd!!

Actually Cliff the max is not a constant. Remember that an IQ is a ratio of your mental age (as tested), divided by your chronological age, times 100. So when I took this test I got all 40 questions right and scored a 142 since I am 40 years old. If I were 30 years old the score would be much higher.
as for the two right answers, let me guess; the one with the goemetric figures with the dots in the middle? The bottom figure has a dot that is not necessarily centered but the circle is still the right answer? The logic is that the figure comes first and the dot is "assumed" to be centered. In this case the circle is the only single-sided figure.
Songman, the "formula" for converting SAT to IQ is flimsy at best, but it's in the ball park. Take your SAT score and divide by 10.11194. In your case, 1320/10.11194 = 131
DRH and Fetish, will do.
an IQ of 100 is the average. 85 is the official retardation score, 160 is the official genius score.
And to all, it's not a contest either, especially since this is a rather easy test, trust me!
Just have fun with it.

Ah ok, I didn't really pay any attention when I filled in my birthdate. It was near my true age however. It's pretty strange they do take your age into account, but not the time it took you to do the test. By getting older, your IQ doesn't get lower, if all other things (the number of correct answer) remain the same. A 40-year old who gets 39 questions correct in 15 minutes, is IMO "smarter" (quoted since I don't believe in these tests) then a 30-year old who got 39 questions correct in 45 minutes. However, this test will assume the opposite.

Actually, I had chosen the bottom figure because it's the only figure which doesn't have equal angled corners. A circle is a figure with an infinite number of equal (near straight) corners.
The other one is the opposite word of "inept". There are actually two correct answers.
But like I said, I don't believe in these tests. First of all because I absolutely do not believe that knowledge of a language is in any way related to intelligence. I know lots and lots of people that use "fancy" words all the time, but who are as dumb as the rear end of a A) Mule, B) Kangaroo, C) Cow, D) Deer or E) Donkey. On the other hand, I also know lots and lots of people that can't do simple math, but of whom I know are highly intelligent. There's also a thing called "intuitive intelligence" (knowing the answer but unable to explain it verbally) which can't be measure with these kinds of tests. (Most) women have far higher intuitive intelligence then (most) men for instance. Yet, all these test are really very left-hemisphere oriented.
Anyway, I'm convinced real intelligence can't be measured, only experienced.

You are right. IQ tests are hit and miss at best. That is why I told everyone not to take it too seriously. It's just for fun. Frankly, I think the writers of this test deliberately skewed it to the easy side in order to make money. Who would pay $15 to find out how they did if the score came back 95?
Anyway, your point about intelligence is right to. As we discussed in the other thread about presidents, education and measured IQ are not necessarily good measures of success. Ronald Reagan was rather unimpressive in school yet he was one of the more prosperous Presidents in recent history. Others had outstanding educations and did very little in office to distinguish themselves.
For intellectual freaks like me IQ tests are a fun way to keep my mind sharp. I run to exercise my body and I do crosswords and IQ tests to keep the old gray matter well lubed. I don't mind admitting that I can ace most IQ tests in part, because I am so good at taking tests. This is perhaps just as important in the score as actual intelligence.
Having said that I read and write all the time so I have developed a strong command of the language. God help me if I had to take an IQ test in a second language like Italian (which I am only conversationally profitient at).
I took the test, the first that I've taken since an Omni-published Mensa test when I was a kid (which I never mailed in). Now that I've squandered my few remaining synapses, how do I find out my score? There was a one page questionaire at the end which I filled out completely, and when I hit calculate, it just took me back to the questionaire page. Will I get emailed my results? I hope I'm smart enough to figure that out.
BTW, most of the math questions were easy, like the two cars one I did in my head in a second. The difficult ones were the round/square symbols in a matrix, and some of the "don't belong" shapes.

I haven't taken it, yet. I worried that it will come back with something like:
Your score was 85. Congratulations, you are officially retarded. The bad news is that you are not qualified even to work at McDonalds. The good news is, there are lots of charities and government programs willing to help you.

WARNING... A couple of spoilers if you haven't already taken it.
LOL... I did a "close" birthdate too. It didn't seem like a good idea to give my real DOB to the online world.
I agree on the triangle vs. circle, I "missed" that one too. I didn't notice there were 2 opposites of inept when I took it, but after a second look I agree either should be right. I think either Kangaroo or Mule could be right. I picked Kangaroo which turned out to be the "right" answer. It does seem like the most obvious choice. But, since Mule is the only sterile hybrid in the group, I think a good case could be made for it also.
I think the age consideration has to do with taking into account that we older folks should get a few more because of our experience. We don't have to think it through... we already know it. That could work both ways though... I missed the race one because I thought I knew it. 20 years ago I would probably have gotten it right.
Does it give points for a "near" right answer on some of them? I missed 2 and still got a 140.

I haven't taken it & don't need to. I already know I'm smarter than my brother & dumber than my sisters. Much dumber. I also know that no one here will score as high as Jane will. How do I know this? She has had an answer for everything for as long as I've known her. AND, she is always right and I am always wrong. Did I say always yet? Always.

I wish they would tell you the percentiles that you score into. That would be cool to know, ya know. EDIT: never mind found answers
They do tell you if you are willing to cough up $15. They give you the percentiles in each of the 4 main categories: math, linguistics, spacial recognition, and logic.
MJ writes" She has had an answer for everything for as long as I've known her. AND, she is always right and I am always wrong. Did I say always yet? Always."
Wait if yor always wrong and you just said that and she is always right..oh I am getting confused...nevermind
