OK, I bought a tape that came with a CD-R copy of the "CD version" of the album.

I get it home, and burner drive and DVD drive can't even recognizre there's a disc in there... I put it in the kid's CD player and it works. ?!

I've heard of the opposite being true, but how could this be? I REALLY wanted to rip this into MP3s.

Thanks!

Try putting the disk in the drive, go to "Start" select "My Computer", right click on drive and select "Explore". If it finds the files, copy files to "My Documents", and rip from your hard drive.

Congratulations.. you just bought one of the latest copy protected music CDs. That means your audio player will work just fine and the computer can't do $hit with it. I'd return the POS just on principle. Or, patch your audio CD into your sound card and rip it that way

It's a burned copy already though.

It was a "buy the tape, get a copy of the CD version" deal.

Hmm. I'll have to try the cable thing...will it still be CD quality though?

It will still be CD quality if you patch into you soundboard input. One trick I use to get a lot of good tunes (have real good stereo equip and Digital satelite feed), it to set up the HiFi VCR with a Top Line HiFi tape and record MTV or VH1 for two hours. Then patch VCR into computer and rip off the good stuff.
