On March 23rd of 2001 we reached 2000 members and now we are closing in on 4000.That's almost doubling our size in only a little more than 9 months.Any ideas on when we will get there? I'd say on Jan 22nd(my birthday).Of course this is all contingent on the average outside temperature, the phases of the moon, and various and sundry other events falling into line!

Well, that's pretty easy to explain. It seems that a lot of new members find PFF through the popular search engines like Google and Altavista.
Currently, PFF is listed on the first page (number 10) when you search for "fiero" on Google, and in the number 4 spot if you search for "fiero" on Altavista. So at this moment, people are finding PFF easier.
Whenever someone starts a thread with adult content (which contains words like s.e.x. and p.o.r.n. - periods added for below reason) PFF's position in the search engine drops dramatically. PFF used to be on the number one spot in Altavista, but dropped all the way to position 50 or so when a thread called "S.E.X. in a fiero?" was active. It's now climbing back steadily to the number one spot. Google uses "link-popularity" which means that if a site is linked from many other sites, it considers it "important" and the site gets a high position. But as soon as Google finds adult content, it will drop the site to position 1000 or so. So if that happens, nobody is able to find PFF through search engines and the number of new members almost grinds to a halt.
That's why I'm not to keen about using adult language here, because it has more effect on PFF than most people realize.

Thats some interesting info Cliff. I didn't know the search engines were actually searching sites for bad language and such in determining the order in which they rank sites! Hopefully everyone will keep it clean so PFF can stay high enough to keep attracting members!
