As an experiment, while I've got the interior apart, I went ahead and wired a 15" neon light tube under the decklid. I mounted it just above where the recall strip goes. It's the only position where you can see anything through the scoop, and the vents.
The neon light is not big enough, I need a 20" if made.
My question is, do you think the neon light can take the heat under there and survive?
TIA!

Depending on it's construction, the lamp should be ok. Hard to say really.

You'll want to get the balast out of there. That thing needs to be able to get rid of it's own heat and won't be able to do that well in a 200F engine bay.
