How do you know if a set of side scoops are Meachams ??..Saw a set that look like them but without the rib inserts, just an open scoop. In very good shape, never used. Are these repros?..If so, what is their worth. Guess they fit for a 85GT notche. Reply guys....

I used to have Mecham style side scoops on my '86 coupe. They were fiberglass reproductions, from FOCOA. The Mecham style have the vanes in the scoops, that split the opening into 3 parts. They also have a "blank" area below the scoop, to leave room for GT ground effects.

I have an origional set of Mecham scoops, they are not fiberglass. I undersatnd that they should be worth 400 to 500 bucks from what I have read here on the forum. I also have a Kami kit that is complete except the spoiler and the front fender pieces.

Dave "Skitime" Horst's red 88 T-Top with the early 3800 series II swap had an original set of Mecham side scoops. They were as flexible as the other urethane panels. The reason that they were made flexible is to prevent the fragile pointed ends of the scoop tips from breakage. Rumor has it that GM designed the scoops, made the tooling in 88 but never offered them as an option or a catalog performance item. After GM killed the Fiero, they leased the molds to Mecham who made one production run and then returned the molds to GM only to see them destroyed. Only someone who worked for Mecham would know for sure. http://www.mechamperformance.com/index.html#parts
