I want to install 1/4 windows in my GT with tape that will hold the windows at speeds approaching 140 MPH.I expect these speeds in the 1/4 mile, and don't want to replace the 1/4 windows that are new and have Mighty Mouse painted on them.

When I replaced the Sail panels several years ago I loaded the pillar just behind the door with silicon glue and used 3M doubled sided tape around the opening. no problem with sail panels coming loose at 135+. Oh! I have the Fiero Store sail panels with the scoops.

If you want to use the same tape that the original windows had, contact Chris Cook at chriscookdesigns.com He advertises that his windows come with the original 3M tape as was used by GM. Whatever is used, the trick is to be sure the car and window are at least 70 degrees. The better you can seal the complete front edge of the window, the less chance of air getting underneath the front edge and lifting it.

I believe that larger paint supply stores carry it. I know my local PPG does.

I remember reading on here that somebody laid a bead of black silicone around the edge for added security.

NO! NO! I used the 3M Black (which is awesome!) on my GT last summer. I had a perfect quarter window that I was saving for a few years. I installed it using the 3M Black, and it seperated. I broke the window trying to remove it to use the 3M FOAM tape. The FOAM tape is necessary due to tolerences being too great. It is about 3/8 inch thick, and you definately want the extra "grith".

I ordered Chris`s 1/4 windows and didn`t really like the tape that came with them so I researched and found that the originals used about 1/8" thick tape which is about 120mil
A lot of the tapes you find are only 40-60 mil.
I ordered the one below and even though I could only buy it in a 36yard roll I was able to sell the rest of it here on Pennocks and got my money back.
And I can honestly say that this tape sticks if you clean the old off really well and clean the surface with isopropyl alcohol before attaching the tape.
I used the 1/2" wide.

Here is where I got mine.

I'd recommend using the 3M Windoweld (used by NASCAR) and is available at most auto parts stores. My experience with tapes has been they are not as effective as an adhesive sealant.
